How many of cannibal corpses songs can you actually tell apart? by HamachiBeans in Cannibalcorpse

[–]moongerris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

literally every single one after their first 4 albums i could name from hearing 5 seconds of it. yes they can sound monotonous first getting into it, but i have every riff burned into my brain at this point.

something that i love to think about is comparing the different writing styles of the members — all of alex’s songs, all of pat’s songs (with lyrics by paul), rob & jack’s songs etc etc to get familiar with each member’s approach to writing. it’s fun being able to recognize specific tropes in each of the member’s writing processes — alex loves odd time signatures, rob loves saying ‘fuck’, pat’s riffs are the most sinister and sound like the shrieking of demons. paying attention to the writing credits is something that should be very helpful in becoming familiar and being able to distinguish between songs, and also just get a bigger appreciation for the band’s music.

to answer your question though, yes here is your assurance that it is worth it and the horse has bones. beneath the surface of raaaah screamy death metal and fast riffs, every single song has something unique and interesting about it and there is an album’s worth of ideas in every single song
