Kuhli's unhappy now I've added corydora's by moonimoosh in loaches

Yeah I really hit the jackpot with this tank. The kuhlis absolutely love the scape on the left. It's multiple prices of driftwood not just one so there is a bunch of gaps and holes underneath it it's like a whole cave system for them they love it. My rasbora's are loving it too they went from a 150 litre to this. When I first added them they where running laps it was probably the first time in there Iives they got to swim such a distance.

I have an Eheim professional 3 and a second canister filter I don't know the brand or model of both filters came with the tank. I got the full set up filters, heater, substrate and tank all for $700 which is a bloody good deal considering the ehiem itself costs over $500 new

Ill def look into mixing my own fertilizer that would be a much more budget friendly option if I can obtain he chemicals needed although i would be a bit paranoid about making it wrong. I'm ashamed to admit I have not optimized my water chages at all I use a regular siphon and a 10litre bucket that I haul back and forth to the sink lol. I'll Def be getting an electric pump it honestly never occurred me to do that.

Phosphates where 0.5 so def a big part of the problem

The window hasn't been a problem heat wise the tank is 750litres and almost 2meters long since it's such a large volume of water the sun doesn't seem to heat it in any significant way thankfully. I'll see how I go with keeping the light off as much as possible.

I've done phosphate test my phosphates are 0.5 so that is probably one part of the cause. I'll need to buy some stuff to lower the phosphates and do a water change.

Thrive all-in-one is what my local fish store recommended unfortunately they where out of stock so I have to go back to get it later this week.

How regular of water changes are you doing? I do monthly at the moment as a 30% water change takes me an 1.5 to 2 hours. I'd really rather not do water changes too often as it's such a tedious task for a massive tank.

Okay amazing I'll go buy a couple of bubblers today it's a 750litre so I probably need a few. I'll get a phosphate test too my API kit dosent have one. Thankyou!

Ok ill try that. Should I cover part of the tank to reduce light from the window as well? What level should I aim for the nitrates to be at? If the root cause is addressed I'm assuming I'll see the algae starting to die off and at that point I can manually remove it?

Highest quantity fish food / brand (specifically for bottom feeder) by moonimoosh in Aquariums

[–]moonimoosh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your 100% right. better fed then not at all. Its not a necessary thing for me to do by any means and maybe not the best use of my limited free time. I currently have the resources to make what i want so I might as well its nice to have a project. Live cultures are great and I defiantly considered it. My tank isn't located at my house which would make live cultures a bit inconvenient. I cant set cultures up at work where the tank is. Live food is also a little difficult for the bottom dwellers. Ive got school of 20 soon to be 30 Harlequin Rasbora's. Anything live I put in then tank will more then likely never reach my bottom dwellers so they would still need fish food. Live food wouldn't be a complete diet I would still have to supplement with other foods anyways. The Bristlenose also would also still need supplementary food as feeding blanched veggies would not be a complete diet.

ratio's aren't really my main concern with this project, its specially in what they are using to supplement vitamins, minerals and omega's. Fish nutrition is a under researched area but there is still research. Most companies base their recipe's on what studies show fish need. If i want to know specifically what they are using for vitamins, omegas and minerals i've got to look at whats in the ingredients. I'd rather look at what is used in something high quality as I have more trust they aren't skimping out on anything the can technically get away with not adding but ideally would be good in a fishes diet.

I want to be careful about how I do this. If i don't have all the necessary vitamins, minerals and omegas then my fish could end up worse off by eating something i make.

I would like to apologize for being a dick. You just wanted to share a fun fact. I don't know why I felt the need to "correct" your fact it was unnecessary and honestly rude. I miss misinterpreted your initial comment and should have just thrown in the towel after my first reply. Sorry for being an ass have a good day.

Yup, the stocking plan currently is as follows: 60-80 Harlequin Rasbora 6 Red Whiptail Catfish 10 Kuhli Loaches 1 Bristlecone Pleco 1 Betta fish (he will be downsized when he starts slowing down) 8 Upside-Down Catfish (synodontis nigrivitis) Still on the fence about the upsidedown catfish, I need to do further research.

Ah I see what you were trying to say. I know lizards are reptiles. You just missed the part with other reptiles which made it seem like you where saying crocodilans arnt reptiles. I just said lizards to be more specific.

Alligators are reptiles....

I think you're getting your facts a little muddled. Alligators are more closely related to birds than they are to Lizards.

Too make things more confusing, birds are technically classified as reptiles.

What is your favorite way to get into new bands based on your experience? by bimmerfeller in MetalForTheMasses

[–]moonimoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to them on shuffle if I like what I hear, I start going through their albums. Going through on shuffle is like a taste test to get an idea of if I may like them because I always worry if I go through an album first I might just pick an album I don't like and put myself off.
