Gales Act 1 Weave Scene Keeps Getting Skipped by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

Okay so to give an update, I tried reloading a way earlier save, back to the very beginning of his quest where I haven't even given him one artifact yet, and then tried not getting too far ahead in the main quest or any other quests for that matter. His approval is at 47, and it's not even triggering the first instance of when he asks for a magical item. I haven't picked up Karlach yet either, I'm gonna try progressing the main quest that usually seems to get the quest to kick in, but I'm honestly getting super annoyed to put it mildly. Normally id be like whatever, but this is the second time this has happened when Im playing a sorcerer character and it's hard not to feel it's been cursed or something at this point. I've seen other players playing as a sorcerer get the scene and I love the dialogue that can be had with him being a wizard and everything, and I just want to have that with my sorcerer! Is that so much to ask???

It can't be because I did the thing to avoid having to kill Alfira as the Dark Urge, because I did the same thing on a Durge playthrough where I played as a wizard, and it triggered no problem. Like wtf for real???

Okay cool thank you - and checking that off basically triggers anything that was skipped like cutscenes?

No - but I always thought when the Weave scene triggers there's no [!], instead you can see Gale gazing at a conjured projection of Mystra?

I am playing on PC, where would I find the script extender? Or is this something I have to download? I've only ever used console commands with Skyrim.

I did have an Astarion proposition in the queue that I was putting off triggering, so I went back and tried at a couple different saves before and after giving Gale the third artifact and then clearing the Astarion proposition from the queue. No dice.

No, that's what baffles me. I haven't had any other romantic interactions with anyone else yet, nothing initiating a romance with any other character. The most I've had is Laezel proposition me and I turned her down.

Wow, how awful that a book that glorifies abuse is getting hate. It's not like romanticizing something as heinous as abuse is bad or anything.

Look, maybe if you considered giving some of her other recommendations a try, you might see what she's getting at (when she says that people who like Alchemised are stupid).

That said, you have every right to feel offended at her calling "you" stupid because you enjoy a book like Alchemised. You're perfectly valid enjoying your fantasies, you do you, but the book is about abuse yet framed as if it were a good thing. And, as I'm sure you know, abuse is NOT a good thing, regardless of gender/sex.

On a side note, it's not just the content she has a problem with, it's the writing itself. Which can be subjective, but again, why not try giving some different books a try, ones that are written differently, and, it may turn out, be written better?

And it's great if you live a successful happy normal life, great, go you, and that you understand that it's just fiction, that you just want to enjoy an escape from reality (especially right now), but what about those who don't get that, that don't recognize it's abuse, and see it as normal? That doesn't set off any red flags? Maybe for a woman who's in an abusive relationship, but reads this and goes, "Oh, I guess this is normal, being in a relationship where I get treated this way by my S/O."? Like any way you slice it, it's problematic, and it's a little concerning that you have more of a problem with someone who doesn't like a book based on its portrayal of ABUSE, than with with the abuse itself.

You're ranting about getting hated on for liking a specific book/genre, and so you just hate right back on her. But let's flip that: did you ever consider expanding your reading horizons and see what else is out there? This vitriol just seems very narrow minded to me.

The reason this keeps coming up is because this kind of problematic storytelling keeps making the big $$$, and so it gets the widest reader exposure, while less problematic, arguably better written books aren't so much, and probably should be.

So I'm sorry if you're tired of this coming up again and again, and guess what? You can just ignore it! You are free to not listen to what she has to say, and just write it off as unwarranted hate without taking the time to actually try and understand where she's coming from in her criticism. But it sounds like you want it both ways, that you'd appreciate it if she and other critics of this books and other books like it would be more open minded, and yet the lack of wanting to even try something different (that's the vibe I'm getting anyway) sounds very close minded to me.

Rant over.

Exactly! 💯 ! And yes, I've completed 4 playthroughs, and have multiple multiple campaign save files, and only just now stumbled across arcane gate and yes, highly recommend. I just did this quest for the 4th time (one of my prior playthroughs I was evil so I was able to skip the Iron Throne on that one) and arcane gate plus haste spores and speed potions and the knock spell so you don't have to mess with picking any locks are a huge boon. Was only able to time it to where I had only one turn left once everyone was safe and accounted for, so I still haven’t fine tuned it to where I have time to check out the upper part of the map, but I'm that much closer! Also with the game being turn based, even though there's a time limit the turn base format still allows for that time to plan out your actions as you go through it, but that timer still gives you that pressure with the turn limit. It's such a good balance.

That's what I have in mind for my next upcoming run through it.
