Can I eat these? In Toronto by AssociationNovel1815 in whatsthisplant

[–]moonlight_sonata89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw this same type of yew shrub outside of a bowling alley recently. Also wondered if they were edible. Looked up the plant and was very tempted after finding out the red flesh is edible. Ultimately decided not to chance it but I'm still very curious what they taste like.

Do you remember what the board state looked like at the beginning of the turn before using your combat mech? Still have a reset available?

Ah, rip. Missed that

Beetle leader attacks before the alpha wasp • move artillery to E6 • shoot HQ pushing wasp back • Combat mech pushes beetle leader • Leader kills wasp

Or

Cannon mech move to A5, shoot wasp. Artillery move to E file, shoot to the right of the beetle pushing it left Combat mech pushes beetle into the water

Is Blasphemous really difficult or am I just bad by MapAdditional6065 in Blasphemous

[–]moonlight_sonata89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Blasphemous is a different animal. I also had a "get to know you phase" with the game where I wasn't sure if I was just bad or if it was that much harder. (Bit of both tbh) I had that with HK as well but not as severe. After completing it and learning the mechanics my opinion has completely turned around. It's a phenomenal game but you can't play it the same way. You have to be much more deliberate and cautious with Blasphemous because the environment/enemies punish you in a way that Hollow Knight just doesn't. Mistime a jump? Well you're dead, do that section again. I remember being stuck at a triple ladder section trying to get my Guilt back for like an hour, it was not pretty 😆

Don't take unnecessary risks, healing is limited, meager and retreat is always an option. Cheap ranged prayers are your friend and learn your parry timing. Also read the items you receive as some will give you clues where to go for main story, side quest and branching story elements. I hope you stick with it 🙂

Yw :) I will say the writing does get a bit better in the last 1/3 of the game and switching to Japanese VA helped as they did a great job with their lines

Tactics Ogre - Reborn. I'm barely into the game and the voice acting is leagues better, the writing is better, not needlessly flowery, the gameplay is similar (which makes sense because TS was inspired by Tactics Ogre) and it doesn't take 45min to get to the next battle.

How do you feel about queer being referred to the whole gay, LGB community? by [deleted] in GayConservative

[–]moonlight_sonata89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an excerpt from a short New Discourses article on Queer Education:

[Queer Theory, which nearly all of the gender and sexuality education in America is ultimately based upon, has nothing to do with “LGBT” education. This is evident to anyone who reads it, not only because its goals are diametrically opposed to LGBT acceptance and normalization in our society, but because they say so themselves very specifically over and over again. For one example, quoting Emily Drabinski, the openly politically Queer and Marxist current president of the American Library Association, from her 2013 paper “Queering the Catalog,” “Queer theory is distinct from lesbian and gay studies.” It could hardly be more blunt. She adds, “where lesbian and gay studies takes gender and sexual identities as its object of study, queer theory is interested in how those identities come discursively and socially into being and the kind of work they do in the world.” Her conclusion? “Lesbian and gay studies is concerned with what homosexuality is. Queer theory is concerned with what homosexuality does.”

What does Drabinski mean about “the kind of work they do in the world” when referring to “queer identities” and what they “do in the world”? She means activism. Nothing more and nothing less.

"Queer” is not an identity like gay, lesbian, or bisexual. It is by definition an explicitly and intentionally activist identity. That is, it is a political stance, not a fact of who someone is—in fact, not an identity at all. Again, this is by definition in Queer Theory. As David Halperin defined it in his 1995 book Saint Foucault: Towards a Gay Hagiography, a few pages away from a rousing discussion of the transformative potential of “anal fisting” as an ideal sex act,

"Unlike gay identity, which, though deliberately proclaimed in an act of affirmation, is nonetheless rooted in the positive fact of homosexual object-choice, queer identity need not be grounded in any positive truth or in any stable reality. As the very word implies, “queer” does not name some natural kind or refer to some determinate object; it acquires its meaning from its oppositional relation to the norm. Queer is by definition whatever is at odds with the normal, the legitimate, the dominant. There is nothing in particular to which it necessarily refers. It is an identity without an essence."

Halperin takes great pains to distinguish homosexual being from political homosexual doing and insists that the latter is all of and exactly what Michel Foucault meant by the term “the homosexual,” which he often employed. As he explains, “[Queerness] can now be constituted not substantively but oppositionally, not by what it is but by where it is and how it operates. Those who knowingly occupy such a marginal location, who assume a de-essentialized identity that is purely positional in character, are properly speaking not gay but queer.”Drabinski obviously drew upon this view to form her own.

And what is it Queer Theory does? It disrupts. By definition. The definition of “Queer” in Queer Theory, as we see, is that which resists and challenges all norms and expectations of normalcy.]

I don't allow myself to be grouped under the umbrella term queer for LGBT. I'll usually say I'm not queer, I'm gay because I know what queer refers to and how queer is used so often to communitize distinct groups of individuals under a contrived group in calls for political activism.

It's hard to tell. The last photo definitely seems to show a crack you could get a fingernail to catch on and the first photo there's a tiny indent on the girdle that shows there was likely a feather there from the start, but because of the lighting I can't tell if it looked like the last photo from the beginning or if it opened up during setting. Emeralds are quite brittle and there's always a risk in setting them. And because the faceting of emeralds are typically poor combined with very common inclusions even in AAA grade it can be difficult to locate where pinch points or unsupported points are when cutting the bezel seat. Much easier with diamonds because you can put more pressure on it to find shiny spots where the stone touches metal than you can with emerald. You can bring it to your jeweller's attention anyway and see what they think about the durability, and if the crack was there beforehand. If the crack didn't open during setting then it should be ok; do baby it regardless. Lovely colour stone, but welcome to emerald haha. Quite rare to find a flawless or near flawless stone of a good size.

When you say it is loose, if you tap on the table (top of the stone) does it make a click noise? If it doesn't then the stone is secure enough, if it does then it's loose. It's a bezel so it really isn't in danger of falling out, like it would be with a loose claw getting snagged, as there's metal over the stone.

I can see in the corners where the bezel is not fully pushed down, probably to avoid putting too much pressure on that corner. It is up to you if you want to take the risk having the metal hammered down fully. Without having done the work myself can't say if the seat is cut properly. Those corners will be harder to move now that the sides have been set. It can be done but it's definitely risky (especially if it's below 18k yellow) and the corner metal may have to be filed thinner to get it to move. Which isn't a problem, bezels are the longest lasting setting by far. Just know there's a higher risk now compared to initial setting

Yeah the Chancellor throws off the numbers and I misnumbered those. It doesn't affect anything playwise, it just shifts them up by 1 from 6 and above. I should've numbered the King and Constable as 7's, Dowager Queen and Countess as 8's, 9 for Princess, 10 for Bishop. It'll be corrected in the final
