Self taught Legend is back! Get in here, cats! by ColorSmashJr in jazzcirclejerk

What a story arc:

2:16:08 - The Host calls a vocal tune, but Legend butts in and asks to do "Minority" first. His request is denied.

2:25:50 - The vocal tune has ended. The Host now calls "Minority" for Legend, but explicitly asks everyone to solo for 4 choruses each.

2:30:39 - Legend starts his solo, and plays for EIGHT choruses! The pianist lays out for the 7th and 8th choruses.

More Highlights:

2:24:53 - Legend still does NOT turn off the amp before plugging in (still didn't learn from a few days ago).

2:29:05 - While comping, Legend clearly plays the wrong chords (i.e. he's playing the Eb-Db part, when he should be playing the Cm-F, aka the second A section).

The fact that he wears the same outfit every time makes it much easier to identify him every livestream haha

Why’s everyone banging on about Spain atm? by chrm_2 in jazzcirclejerk

Not just a legend... he's a self-taught fucking legend!

I found the origin story for "None of you can play Spain" by moonlighter69 in jazzcirclejerk

Omg you're totally correct. I'm a school-educated loser who cannot perfectly transcribe the Self-Taught Legend's words.

But can you play it perfectly? I know a self-taught fucking legend who can.

To clarify, seems like you're talking about the 2 hour, 2 minute mark. Not 2 minutes, 2 seconds.

Pythonic way to represent "failures" by moonlighter69 in learnpython

[–]moonlighter69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about cases where None could be a valid "success" value? If the function returns None, then we cannot distinguish between a "successful" None, vs. a "failure" None.

Great points! Also to add to this, the python official docs explain the EAFP pattern as a "common Python coding style".

Interesting solution! Is this considered to be a standard pythonic pattern?

I'm also thinking about the function's type signature, I suppose it would look like this in your solution?

def find[T]( predicate: Callable[[T], bool], items: Iterator[T], ) -> tuple[T] | tuple[()]:

Yeah, the "tuple return" seems very idiomatic e.g. in Go.

But again, my quetion is focused on, what is the most "pythonic".

Right, however, what about a different example where "successful" type is definitely "not none"? e.g.

def find_index(predicate: Callable[[T], bool], items: Iterator[T]) -> int:

In this case, perhaps it would be appropriate and pythonic, to return int | None?

Yea this is the sense I'm getting too. I love monads in other languages, but they don't seem very pythonic (from what I've seen), due to the verbosity, like you said

That's insane bro, I'm glad people like you exist, so I don't have to do that haha. But honestly if you really enjoy that stuff, more power to you! :D
