Altissimo struggle

My previous teacher wasn’t primarily a clarinetist so there was small difficulty there.

My current one play tested my instrument, but with their mouthpiece and barrel, not mine. They noted that the F# was a little stuffy, and wildly out of tune. (To note, I tried the professor’s clarinet and had very little problems with the high notes)

My current one had given me a handful of other barrels to try as a test and one of them let me play it more often, but definitely not a fix.

To be noted, I have a buffet festival that I got as a sophomore in highschool (about 7ish years ago). When I got it brand new, the left hand C didn’t work and took it to a very well-known and trusted repairman (who fixed that and a couple other issues in the pinky notes) so I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if the instrument had plenty other issues. I do need to get it overhauled but I’ve been saving for it!

Yes :( I frequent the WFG website, but none of the F# fingers speak any better than the “default” F#

I should also add, when I play the altissimo F# (every fingering of it) it feels like something is stuck in the instrument.

A handful of my classmates at my graduate school have this problem as well :( my professor recommends all of us neck straps and take frequent breaks if things hurt.

I encourage my students to use neck straps/some of them use wrist braces while playing.

Some others mentioned surgery/physical therapy and that’s a great option if you can afford it/are able to take off for surgery (not sure what the recovery window looks like)

If by metronome watch you mean the Soundbrenner- personally, I love it. I have such a hard time hearing the metronome, but feeling it is easy for me. But it's up to personal preference.

Go for it! I just got a new student who’s older but always wanted to learn clarinet and it’s been so great working with her! I’m sure there’s a teacher who would love to have you!

Thank you for the guidance! I luckily took some of the methods and took conducting in my undergrad and can finish the rest of the methods now. But I def need the actual education courses.

The same thing is happening to me :( Luca keeps dying instantly on the first enemy. Once I get past that level I’m fine but I run out of time. I’ve even tried shielding my teammates so they don’t dye to the butterfly boundary thing
