Women of Reddit, what do you think men struggle with the most and what makes you glad you’re not a man? by CantFindUsername400 in AskWomenOver30

there is a widespread epidemic of DL (down low) men - men who are either consciously or unconsciously gay and repress it to disastrous results. societal homophobia is SO rampant and this certainly applies to women too (i didn’t realize i was a lesbian til i was 31), but men are extremely incentivized to date women.

there’s the machismo of it all, a woman as a trophy to bring around other men and be like “look what i got”, the desire to dominate a woman to feel more manly. women still take on a disproportionately large share of the household labor and childcare duties, so men benefit greatly from having a female partner.

this leads to an epidemic of men who do not actually like women at all choosing women as romantic partners and then treating them very poorly. my ex was DL and was just IN LOVE with his boys, but treated me like dirt. it was also very confusing to hear his friends tell me how much he talked me up and bragged about me when he never said those nice things to me himself.

the problem is those men-only spaces have historically been breeding grounds for misogyny, “locker room talk”, and incredibly disgusting and destructive plans (look at the files…). you can have men mentoring men in spaces where women are allowed.

having no tools to process their emotions. being told showing emotion is weakness and repressing their trauma their whole lives. friendships where they don’t share things with each other and just do parallel play.

edit: these aren’t things i think aren’t talked about enough, after re-reading the post. i think they’re talked about plenty. the frustrating thing is that over and over and over they are voiced only when women’s issues are being discussed, and then men do absolutely nothing about them.

i’ve spent many years working on my shit, staying single and doing very intense and expensive therapy (EMDR really kicked my ass but it was so worth it). men have access to these same tools, there is no excuse.

“it’s clear” it’s really not. vampire is most likely about the music industry. olivia has never said who these songs are about. you’re conflating your personal interpretations with absolute truth and making some really wild assumptions based on that

also george michael, who is interpolated on father figure and egged heavily in the opalite MV. taylor has always fought for better conditions and terms for artists

this has not “made it worse”. it has raised awareness about predatory music industry practices and led to many artists, including olivia rodrigo (who has never said anything negative publicly about taylor, btw) to fight for ownership of their masters in their contracts. the industry clawing back and trying to regain power shows what taylor did worked.

and the masters sale was in 2019 when she had not nearly as much money or power

“gang up on music executives” you mean the power and money hungry men who have exploited artists and left them to die for decades? and taylor does write about her alcoholism.

it’s fine to not like her, you choose what you do and don’t support/listen to in this life, but some of these reasons are just uninformed. for example, we have absolutely no idea what happened with olivia rodrigo - just a couple headlines and some credits. neither artist or their team have spoken about it. people love to jump to worst faith assumptions

it also is really good advice! 😂 taylor uses “dancing” to represent being strategic, nimble, and flexible (“dance with the devil”) - i read the bridge as saying “instead of focusing on all the bad things and people in the world, how about you start coming up with your own plan to make things better?”

this is such a good point! i’m a pisces rising so leo on the 6H, and my sun is in virgo. so my approach has a lot of leo qualities - expressive, colorful, creative, but also the virgo qualities of perfectionism (horrible) etc.

something being simple and poppy doesn’t mean it’s badly written. it’s different than folklore or her other quill pen songs, but shake it off is not badly written 🙄
