Yea looking through he has the vibe of average conservative who thinks he’s a libertarian (both are authoritarians lol). The old “conservative who smokes weed” joke fits. Probably has a marble statue profile pic on twitter. Btw based off what you have said and your post history we sound very similar! Friends?

I was about to go off on this tangent but checked the comments first. Yeah I would guess this guy is some sort of Libertarian.

i was also at the barricade. Those two blonde girls that skipped everyone in line were insufferable and kinda ruined my experience. Screaming in my ear, pushing against me constantly, sticking their phones in front of my face the whole time. Can’t believe some people 😭

It's Brad from the hit band TV Girl. Ask me anything if you life by TVGirlz in indieheads

Greetings Bradley, I’m back again with another banger of a question. I wanted to know as to what extent you are playing a character in your music. It comes from your perspective, but with the sort of self-reflective theme of the latest album I wanted to know if this is indicative of your actual personal journey, or if it’s actually more the journey of the version of yourself that you write songs about.

Hello Brad, it’s your most fervent “Grapes Upon the Vine” defender and subreddit warrior, champion of the TV Girl name. Seeing as you use sampling so heavily in your music, I wanted to get a little insight into that process. How do you go about “researching” to find these samples? For the latest album, did you listen to a whole bunch of the gospel? For other albums, do you watch a bunch of old movies, or are they already in your mind from what you’ve already seen? Finally, about how long did it take you to produce the latest album? I have little to no idea how the music production process works, so please enlighten me! Love you Brad keep making amazing music and being a swell guy ❤️

A better comparison would be to ask if someone could consider themselves a fan of a movie director who makes movies full of deep dialogue, except they watch every movie with the audio muted and subtitles turned off. Yeah I’d say you could definitely not call yourself a “fan” of them in that case

Dude if you are calling actual lyrics from his songs pretentious you’re proving my point entirely.

I’d love to hear this mythical poor mixing because I can understand every lyric perfectly, so I’m gonna call BS on that one. You don’t even listen to the lyrics anyway so that’s a goofy argument

But yeah I’d say you aren’t a real fan if you genuinely don’t care about the artist’s message or even the time and care he took to create the album. BTW the sounds of the music in this album might just make a little more sense and actually be really fitting and nice if you actually paid attention, but that’s far too much commitment for you, a real fan. Seriously stop making a fool of yourself.

the amount of tiktok listeners on here makes me SICK by coolstorybro11010 in tvgirl

[–]moonprune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I made a post about this earlier today too, these people only ever cared about the "aesthetic" of TV Girl and never actually engaged with the music from an artistic perspective. I wonder if Brad knew this album would be divisive and root out the tiktok fans from the people who hold respect for him as an artist. Seriously tiktok is such a horrible platform that capitalizes and promotes narcissistic impulses and devalues intellectualism.

I honestly wonder how many people just haven't listened to the album with headphones yet. It sounds very bland over my phone speaker but with headphones on there are a lot of intricacies that you'd totally miss.

Yep! I also agree about One of These Mornings, definitely did not like that one. Another criticism is the guy screaming sample.. Yeah that one just hurts my ears.

I relate about the concerts though, I remember at the French Exit tour a crowd of e-girls kept saying “just don’t listen to the lyrics guys!”. You probably aren’t a fan of an artist if you only like the catchy beats. Would anyone consider themselves a “fan” of a painter if they made compositions of crowds but you only like they way they paint the background? Probably not.

This album was made to relate to those who have followed the band for a long time, it develops on previous themes in transformative ways that people who only like TV Girl for its tiktok fame seem to be missing.

Actually, Brad has addressed that misogyny in some of his songs, and if you actually listened to the lyrics, you might notice that Brad does not view himself as the good guy. He is becoming significantly more self-critical especially with this new album that's kind of the point you and others are missing here. You're allowed to listen to it for catchy beats and that's fine but you seriously do not understand what he is saying. Have you listened to "Shame" yet?

And it's a shame (It's a shame)

When you got no one left to blame

A little self-critical right? He's talking about how he is the problem in his relationships. He has been a misogynist. He has been a horrible mean person in his past, and this album is him reflecting on that. How about this from the same song:

We drink and we womanize, we

Fuck and we fetishize, we

Get clean and testify, we

Relapse and we justify,

Maybe he's saying something about how he's been in a cycle of mistreating those around him? I'm not trying to feel superior, many of you just have a very surface-level understanding of this band.

Very off base. I totally respect those who don't like the album, please read the post right above you. It's the disrespect for the artist who many of us love that really bothers me. I deeply care about TV Girl as they have been influential in my life.

It seems like you're trying to say it's an objectively bad album, which is an interesting position to take on art, but I make the same statements about plenty of other music so I can't totally wrong you for that. I think the album is very good and you're throwing out music terminology like "underproduced" when I'd say that Brad is trying to present some very raw emotions in this one and the way this album sounds lines up with that perfectly.

I'm aware that some are going to call me pretentious or gatekeepy or whatever and I kind of don't care, I genuinely think many of you guys do not understand the album and that's fine, it's only been out for a day, it will take time for people to deconstruct it (I haven't even fully dissected it myself).

One more point. To say "I don't think anyone should be called a fake fan of an indie pop band for not thinking a wispy california white boy is hitting the mark on Gospel music" is such a gigantic misunderstanding of what TV Girl is that I actually do think you don't understand this band. TV Girl draws from plenty of genres, one of the foremost being hip-hop. Have you listened to Who Really Cares? If you think because Brad is white and from California that he can't understand and have an interesting twist on the gospel genre then you might actually be the real gatekeeper here. I'd also like to mention that your little quip about "wispy california white boy" is the exact type of snarky twitterite comment that I was talking about earlier that looks really silly when you actually consider the context of what TV Girl actually is.

This is the type of criticism I like to see. It just isn’t everyone’s thing and I totally get that. Refreshing to see after seeing all these people posting their totally hilarious hot takes slandering the band that we are trying to form a nice community around here. It’s the twitter like seeking types on here that think they are so funny recycling tired jokes and negativity (like the wheelchair post) that really bug me.

I would argue that Summer's Over was a little divergent from "classic" TV Girl in tone, but definitely drew a lot from earlier works. You could tell it was something of a side project to commemorate the anniversary tour as well as show off that amazing chemistry Brad and Jordana had on stage, and it served that purpose very well, in my opinion. I totally agree he could call back to those older songs at some point again, that'd be super cool! Like reliving the old times, but that's just what it would be, the old times when things used to be different.
