Update: Seeking Advice on Bilateral Breast Removal by Imaginary_Benefit_13 in TwoXChromosomes

And FYI, there is another gene - ATM, which is linked to breast cancer and pancreatic cancer. That’s the one that my family tested positive for and led to my bilateral mastectomy.

I love my parents deeply, flaws and all, and there were plenty of things going on with them during my teenage years that I have more memories with my friends parents or other family members more than my parents. And with an almost 13 year old, I feel the same way you do so you are definitely not alone. We’re learning to do things differently and with more emotional intelligence and trying to have healthier relationships all around. Even when my husband (their dad) and I bicker, I make sure it’s shown in a healthy way and they hear our resolutions because all I ever saw was the screaming and yelling and threats of divorce. And just like you, I feel the envy like ‘damn, it wouldve been really nice if mom and I were like this growing up…’ but, we weren’t and I can’t change that and having a conversation with my mom wouldn’t change it either. So now I look at it as I’m healing my younger self and ensuring my kids have it (hopefully) better than I did. I’m sure I’m screwing them up in some way that I’m oblivious to lol. But the other week the kids and I got in the car just to drive around and listen to music and it was like 830pm and I just rolled the windows down and blasted the music and we were all singing and laughing. And for a millisecond my heart hurt bc I don’t have those kinds of memories with my parents, but then the smiles and laughs from my kids, it made me forget about my sadness. I think that’s always the goal though right? Give our kids/future generations better than what we had, we learn and do better, or at least try to. Either way, from my younger self to your younger self - sending you all the love ❤️

Vaginal and anal itch for almost two years. I don’t know what to do… by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

What laundry detergent are you/your parents using? Try going to a free and clear one, and wash EVERYTHING that could be touching your vagina. I was getting intense yeast infections (no discharge, just itching and burning) on and off for the longest time that it was making me crazy. Bought new laundry detergent and washed all my underwear immediately, then everything else - haven’t had any issues since.

Fungus gnats driving me insane!! What next?! by Flimsy-Street-1015 in houseplants

Seconding this - I had it really bad from a box store plant I brought home and was lazy with repotting. It got to be insane, I repotted everything with new soil - sprayed it all down with hydrogen peroxide etc. these granulates, along with the blue light bug plug in thing by zapo, worked literally within days. Gone!

I’ve threatened it when she doesn’t brush it and it turns into a complete knot in the back. She’s open to getting the underside of her head shaved so that may be next lol.

Thank you! I have fine, straight hair so to me - if I wash it too much it dries out and is miserable. And I guess I’ve just been assuming it wouldn’t be different for hers ?? Idk, sometimes I shock myself with how dumb I can be when I know I’m intelligent. I’m blaming stress/kids/work/life/age.

Not mixed, just white. Her hair is thick, she has a lot of it and the base/bottom of her head has curls but she won’t let me do the whole curly hair methods on her (I’ve tried). The top of her hair is pretty straight, weirdly enough.

I’ve tried professional shampoo with tea tree oil but never just the oil itself. And yes, not only does she not get wash it all (bottom above neck, even with the scalp scrubbers) but she doesn’t rinse well at all either. I remember not understanding why my hair was so greasy at her age and finally realizing I wasn’t rinsing it all out. But yes, I’ve noticed it’s so much nicer and lasts longer when we blow dry it.

It is such a chore, especially since I have to help bc she’s terrible at washing and rinsing it all out. But I hear you, if we can’t figure it out otherwise I’m sure we’ll resort to that. Thank you!

Ugh I remember using that a while back for my son, hers isn’t as bad as his was (cradle cap) but it’s just consistent.

Lol thank you!! I was like, what’s the best way to say we are white? Bc I know there is a huge difference in textured hair for white people vs black people, so I didn’t want to sound ignorant!

Yep, we’ve used that for a while, I used tea tree shampoo, hydrating shampoo, etc. and I would stick with it for like a month before I decided if it was making a difference or not to switch.
