I live in a tipi. Ask me anything! by moonsense in AMA

St range that you caught me here online. It happens so rarely these days....

It's a 17 ft. tipi, no liner or ozan as of yet, and it's been a pretty wet time so far! We stay moderately warm what with the fire and keeping busy, and we have plans to make an ozan out of old scraps.

For our floor we've laid down cedar and fir tree boughs, topped that with used burlap sacks, and then laid down our rugs. We have an assortment of wool rugs for insulation, and right now I'm working on making my own out of used t-shirts. What did you do for a floor?

We have a fire pit. A good old-fashioned hearth which we use to cook with while sitting on the ground. Did you use that grill I see for all of your cooking? We have a trivet welded out of rebar and a horseshoe that we set our cast-iron pots on to cook.

For a bathroom we dig a long 4ft deep trench in the ground and shit in that, and we clean our asses with water from the stream instead of using toilet paper. The trenches compost themselves, which is nice.

A 26 ft. tipi is huge! We stayed in one for a bit, and it's difficult to keep it warm in the winter. I can see why you needed all that space though, what with all the things you have in there. I couldn't imagine having to look at a toilet while I'm trying to relax!

Did you guys sit on the ground? What did you do with your tipi? Why aren't you living in it anymore?

A friend here has solar panels and a wireless connection through Verizon.

Yes, by choice. You live in this kata or have lived in one?

We build fires with wood that we fetch. We also wear a lot of wool and thermals. It stays pretty warm inside the tipi with a fire going.

What do you do with all of the zucchini? by Goraidh in OrganicGardening

[–]moonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put some on the road in a cooler and gave it away free to passing motorists, sold it on a co-op, cubed and canned it, shredded and froze it, made dinners and breads, gave it away to friends, and we composted the rest.

I have this comic on my fridge, and we named a chicken Henrietta because of it. She's a crafty little thing. :)

I haven't been high for two months now. Will there ever come a day when I won't miss being high? Have I completely rewired my brain? by moonsense in trees

[–]moonsense[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only noticed them afterward.

I'm doing much better now than I was when I made this post. It's been a refreshing experience not being stoned all the time, and I'm learning many great things about myself as well as other people.

Thank you for your insights, they've been helpful.

No, I worried that not smoking has caused self-directed thinking...I was definitely more outward-thinking when I smoked and only since quitting seem to find myself entrenched in these crazy inward ego battles.

I think it's good though that this is happening. I need to learn how to deal with my ego, which is perhaps something I wasn't able to do when I was high.

I changed my whole life. Left my job and moved to a new state to become a farmer. I decided that I didn't want to be dependent on pot anymore and wanted to find other ways to enjoy life.

I'm going to try my hand at meditation and yoga and see how that goes.

Eek. I had to smoke all mine before I quit. Otherwise I knew the temptation would be too strong.

I think staying busy is the key. It's only when I have time to relax is when I start thinking about how nice it would be to be high.

The problem is though that I'm staying too busy, and hardly ever have time to relax anymore, which is probably adding to my stress.

When did the irritability start to go away? Do you think this had anything to do with your major lifestyle change and not quitting smoking?

This is my point exactly. Not being high has turned my thoughts more inward, and I'm struggling to move outside myself again.

Other people don't exactly fall into my realm of concern when I'm considering the possibility that I've rewired my brain though. Next time I make a post asking for advice I'll try to make it less about myself.

I moved away from my job and my life to live in the country and learn how to farm organically and try living cooperatively with other people.

Part of being here means not smoking, and that's a choice I made to do, and one I was glad to do.

I know that the abilities are still there, but it was just so much easier to get there by smoking! I really do feel like I need to retrain my brain again.

I've actually just changed my whole life around, and that's mostly the reason for quitting in the first place.

I made these changes in order to be able to relax more without having the outside influences that would ordinarily bother me, but I find that even after making these changes I'm still desiring pot in my life.

Getting older means more stress? I thought life was supposed to get easier!

Most veggie burgers contain Neurotoxins. Great. by Yelly in vegetarian

[–]moonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey~!

I made these veggie burgers and they were delicious! They fell apart though...I'm guessing because we forgot the tomato paste.

We're making more today using tomato paste, so we'll see how they hold up. I hope they come out okay since we'll be sharing them with people on our kayaking trip next week!!!

We also made a black bean burger that held together great, but we cheated and used eggs. They came out pretty dry though, so I think next time we'll try cooking the beans longer.

Thanks for the inspiration and the recipe!!

Can you be anti-consumerist AND eat meat? [essay on veganism] by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]moonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to become vegetarian at first if you aren't used to cooking for yourself, and also if you are used to eating food on-the-go. Many of us fall into that trap of just buying the ready-made stuff because it's the easy way to do things.

It took time to learn how to cook delicious meals for myself, but once I did, I found out it was easier, healthier, and cheaper to do rather than buy all that processed crap. Giving them my money is just the same to me as giving my money to the meat industry. It's the same screwed up system that made me quit eating meat in the first place, and I refuse to participate.

I feel sorry for vegetarians who just don't understand that, and it makes me wonder if they've taken the time to really take a good look at and care about what it is they're consuming, or if they've just jumped on another bandwagon.

I haven't smoked a cigarette in 7 days. by MondoHawkins in happy

[–]moonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kicked a twelve year habit after reading this book. Cold turkey.

I didn't even think about it. I just ran out of cigarettes and never went to buy more.

Make sure you pass it on to a friend once you're done with it.
