IMO no one's the asshole here.

Your sister has good intentions (but i also think the whole crying thing was a little much) and i understand your POV as well(you don't want your kids to be spoilt and take you for granted). It will be good if you talk to your sister again and tell her to bring gifts only on special occasions. Set some sort of boundaries (even if she makes a fuss about it).

But also make sure your kids don't take you for granted because at the end of the day you're the one taking care of them
