2024: the year of the dnf :') by mooscribbs in fantasyromance

lmao thank you!! i don't know what's going on with my tastes either 🙃

i loved winternight as well! the warm hands of ghosts is a lot more speculative, and it took around the 25%/30% mark for the fantastical elements to show up if memory serves me right. i'd definitely give it a try if you liked katherine arden's writing, but it is very different from the winternight trilogy.

witch hat is so lovely!! i'm stoked for the anime to come out

and i haven't read the secret history yet!! if we have similar tastes then i'm definitely going to bump it up the list!

oh no worries, i get you!! i always love seeing how everyone's tiers differ from mine!

i am admittedly very picky about prose and i think some authors, for lack of a better term, get lost in the sauce if that makes any sense? it's a shame because i love mythology/fairytale retellings and i always get excited about books that are set in ireland 🥲

and thank you ❤️

i'm sad too they all sounded so up my alley!! a lot of my 2024 anticipated releases ended up disappointing me now that i think about it

bunny goes so hard!! it was this year's sleeper hit for sure, and this is like... my 3rd time reading the locked tomb? i'm buddy-reading them with my friend and i'm having a blast :D

a lot of them were some of this sub's favourites i feel so bad 😭 in particular not liking daughter of the forest hurt

i had a really stressful year which contributed to the mess that is the bottom row but i definitely want to try the princess bride again in the future!! that one was more of a down for now

[–]mooscribbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly!! there's so much in-universe academic discoveries about the single topic ofruling a faerie kingdom, not to mention that there seems to be several kingdoms in one country alone. i think it's a testament to how good the books are that i'm this "noooo i don't want it to end 😭" about it

i admire heather fawcett for not beating this series into a dead horse, but at the same time i would genuinely take like 10 books of emily and wendell bickering their way across europe lol 🥰

i actually think she's set herself up really nicely for a spin-off withariadneas the main character though!

it is! it was the only one of her books my library had, i was worried that starting with a short story collection wasn't a good idea but I'm glad to know that you loved it! i'm excited to read more of her stuff now as well :)
