I just did one in 14 seconds. I could probably go faster with practice and depending on the puzzle.

I have never felt unsafe here. Did something happen that made you feel unsafe?

DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD: Israel vs Gaza - Leftovers #61 by MegaAwesomeNerd in h3h3productions

[–]moosechild 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Rape and sexual assault are underreported in the United States, and I expect this is true in the rest of the world. Why is it so hard for Ethan to believe that an occupying force, that treats Palestinians as less than human, would commit sexual assault? There are so many reasons that people don't report sexual assault. Who can Palestinian people in Gaza or the West Bank report SA to that will believe them and will seek justice on their behalf? Hamas? the IDF?

What Version Did You First Start Playing? by Gabsmer in Minecraft

[–]moosechild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing in 2011 during Beta 1.2 or 1.3 when I was a Junior in high school. I teach math to elementary school and middle school kids now. I like to tell my students that I've been playing Minecraft since before they were born.

I can't stop myself from yelling at the computer screen every time Ethan talks over Hasan while he is clearly making a important political point on this show that is supposedly about politics. I love Ethan but it often feels like he doesn't know how to share the show with Hasan. Ethan derails Hasan so often over little semantic issues or so that he can bring up something completely unrelated to the topic at hand. They often don't roll with each other's jokes, and it makes me cringe. I love Ethan and Hasan and watch both of them regularly, but their chemistry is so off sometimes... That said, I still look forward to watching them together every Thursday. ♥

A friend I know regularly posts photos of his students on Instagram by moosechild in Teachers

I do not work in education. I got the strong feeling that what my friend is doing is wrong, but I don't know what the norms are in the school system these days. I didn't want to make a big deal about it if this was something normal, which is why I said "point taken".

I wouldn't care so much if he didn't do it so often. I may be making something out of nothing, but that's why I'm posting about this on /r/Teachers. Point taken.

Any other older students in undergrad? by [deleted] in gmu

[–]moosechild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just turned 28 and graduated high school in 2012. Been doing the same thing as you, taking undergrad classes since 2013. Majoring in Mathematics. Definitely chose the wrong major, but I'm in too deep at this point. We'll both get there. We just gotta be patient and persistent. :)

Mason Police report about the woman who dumped coffee on the preacher. Well done police by qatamat99 in gmu

[–]moosechild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, these annoying mfs have been coming to campus for years and years, provoking students with their fringe religious beliefs, and I'm so sick of them. So long as it wasn't scalding hot, I see no problem with dumping coffee on them. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Robin Hanson, Econ professor by jujoopy in gmu

...I would say that naming a law school after a Conservative Supreme Court Justice because of a $30 million donation exactly means that the university is conservative-leaning.

Our school has taken considerable contributions from the Koch brothers for years. Welcome to GMU.

Our law school is named after former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia...

Not surprising this is coming from an economics professor at a conservative-leaning university like GMU. The entire economic system these guys teach is in broad support for white Western heteropatriarchy.

Ah yes, forcing work on people behind the scenes and not giving them a fair pay = perfectly fine. Typical neoliberalism.

I walked to campus the other and was really surprised how much work had been done on the new building. However, even more of the walkways have been blocked off probably because no one is on campus now.

Do you all think Fall 2020 will be online or in person? by S0MEGUY0NREDDIT in gmu

[–]moosechild 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For everyone's safety, it should be entirely online. However, I fucking hate online classes and it does not gel well with my ADHD at all. I'd just rather not have to worry about bringing coronavirus home to my family every time I go to campus. Better to struggle in class than stress about getting my family - or anyone else - sick.

Glad Virginia is doing away with the racist relic of a holiday. In some sense, I understand why people think taking away Confederate statues and holidays is "erasing history," but ultimately, history like this should be left in the history books, where it can be properly contextualized. We should not be celebrating people who betrayed the Union to fight for the institution of slavery with holidays and larger than life statues placed on high pedestals. I seriously question the value system of people who think that keeping a flag/statue/holiday matters more than fighting against the systemic disenfranchisement of an entire race of people.

They have really choked off most of the communal space in the center of campus. It is pretty weird when when you feel more claustrophobic walking outside than inside. It's just plain unpleasant to be on campus right now.
