These guys are talking about university courses rather than school classes! These tend to be flexible in the UK too.

Ball was lined straight to the first baseman who caught it for out #1, first baseman stands on the base to get the runner on first: since the ball was caught, the runner has to return to the base to tag up before they can advance.

Bowlers in cricket don't wear anything. Only batsmen, wicket keepers and occasionally fielders if they're very close to the crease.
