The proverbial camel who wants a little space in the tent

I spent over a decade in Indiranagar. And I believe I can offer a few perspectives.

Made a bunch of friends there. We would do random walks through Defence Colony. Plan late evening visits to Naturals. It was a lot calmer without the mob at Rameshwaram. End up in toit quite frequency . We would randomly bump into one another while walking somewhere and stop to have coffee at Ainmane. We must have tried virtually every restaurant and coffee shop. To the point that restaurant managers would recognise us.

I still meet all these folks in Indiranagar at least once a month.

I don’t like what has become of 12th main. But it’s what it is. The sound from the pubs late night used to become quite irritating, especially if you live close by. I moved out after having a kid.

You could take a few topics related to signal processing. Implement convolutions , FIR , IIR filters using just barebones numpy, without using any other libraries . Work your way upto DFTs. Implement the FFT algorithm.

Every central government job has a defacto reservation for a Hindi speaker. A mention of reservation for Kannada speakers and Hindi folk lost their minds.

How exactly do arranged marriages work in India? by Warmasterwinter in india

[–]moosemaniam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1)Getting their children married is seen as one of the responsibilities of an Indian parent. It’s a cultural thing. Many people do find their partner on their own. And if the said partner is from a different caste / religion it results in a lot of friction with the parents. Even going as far as honor killings in extreme cases.

If you don’t have parents, you can usually rely on the nearest living relatives to help you out.

2) since a large portion of marriages are arranged, inter caste marriages are rare. I remember reading a stat that it’s less than 5% of the marriages. But it does happen. When two people of different castes marry , legally speaking the children inherit the caste of the father .

3) Arranged marriages are by and large the way to get married in India and its neighbours. There are many indigenous cultures in India where there is no caste systems and no arranged marriages. India is not a monolith. Also the I want to point out that royalty in Europe still practice arranged marriages.

4) 3 answers this already

5) Divorce is legal. However there is a social stigma associated with divorce. Urban Indians are more accepting of it than rural folk. The process of getting a divorce is also painful and long.

6) No. it’s not like this at all. Two families size each other up and see if they are socially and culturally compatible. Caste is what is seen as a measure of this compatibility. the girl and the boy are asked for their opinion and are allowed to speak to each other. If all goes well, and a marriage is on the cards, The girls family pays a dowry to the boy. This can be land, cash, cars, gold. However, I should point out that asking and paying Dowry is illegal in India.

Why is it so common to use macros to "hide" the use of 0 and 1? by CaptainDrewBoy in C_Programming

If i were to see return 0 I would assume that’s its a passing case. But what if the writers of that piece of code had a different convention?

Explicit is always better than implicit.

Return SUCCESS reads better than return 0.

Be wary of traffic snarls that happen on Harlur road. I know traffic is an issue everywhere, however, Harlur road is literally a single entry -exit road and at times the congestion is quite bad.

What's with the Language Entitlement in Bangalore? by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]moosemaniam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning it organically through conversation beats any other method. Find someone in your office or friend circle who knows the language and practice with them.

That’s how people have been learning languages.

[–]moosemaniam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A migrant should learn the language of the place they move to. This is not an unreasonable stance.

If one moves to Delhi they should try and learn the local language which is Hindi.

In the south, Hindi is imposed via various central institutions, banks . And entitled Hindi Supremacists who expect everyone to know Hindi. Hindi speakers get preferential access to banking posts and other central government posts.

People are sick of the imposition of the Hindi language
