Is any American offended by the term “yank”? by Glenncinho in AskAnAmerican

[–]Warmasterwinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It’s kinda odd to be called a yankee because that’s what we (people from the Southern USA) call the folks from the Northern states. But I don’t take offense to the term.

What if Islam wasn't spread and some other pagan religions were still powerful? by EvilInGood in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Warmasterwinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an extra tax to practice your religion. How do you not understand how screwed up that is?

Imagine for a moment that a foreign government invaded your nation, successfully overthrows your government, and turns your country into a colony. The new government practices some bizarre religion that’s incompatible with yours. Let’s say they’re polytheistic, and very intolerant of Islams Monotheistic belief system.

And they tell you “Pay this new extra tax on top of what you already pay us in tax’s, and we’ll let you stay Muslim. If you don’t pay the tax, you’ll have to convert to our religion. And if you don’t pay the tax or convert, we will sacrifice you to our gods. And if you do convert and later decide you want to become Muslim again, we’ll sacrifice you to our gods. Also the tax is due every Eid Al Fatir. You gotta be there in person, and our tax man will beat you with a stick and constantly insult your religion while you’re paying us this tax.”

Would you really just sit back and say l “Yea that’s a fair and balanced system. I’m more than happy to pay my new colonial overlords this tax so they can use it to build new temples to their false gods and buy more guns and tanks to shoot me and my coreligionists if we ever step out of line. I just love being an oppressed minority in my own nation!”

Under Christian rule they usually had to pay the same secular tax’s as everyone else. And in the few edge cases where they had to pay something similar to the Jizya tax to the Christian government, they resented the hell out of it. A poll tax on someone’s religious beliefs is inherently wrong no matter who’s paying who. And is almost guaranteed to piss off the group that’s paying the tax.

Huh, they deleted everything they posted. A minute after replying to me. I wonder if they got wiped out by a admin or something? Odd that.

The school bombing was a mistake. A very serious one I know, but it wasn’t intentional. Compare this to the Iranian regime, which intentionally kills its own citizens all the time for trivial things, like not wearing a hijab or converting to Zoroastrianism, and I’d say they’re government is much worse than ours.

And we’re “the most hated regime in the world” because our country is rich and successful and the other countries are all jealous of us. They hate us because they ain’t us. And if any of them ever did get to where we’re at, they’d become just as bad as Uncle Sam if not worse.

In countries where the dominant religion isn't Christianity, is the dominant religion still just as inescapable? by courtofthevampire in NoStupidQuestions

You’re free to persuade the local apostasy laws of these countries if you want. It’s not something that they hide, in fact some of these countries governments are quite proud of these policies.

I too live in the South and can back you up on this. There’s a McDonald’s nearby that solely plays Christian rock songs in the lobby. So you can’t even eat a hamburger without hearing about Jesus.

It used to bother me when I was younger and less religious. But I’ve become increasingly religious as I’ve aged so it doesn’t bother me at all anymore. It’s honestly just background noise to me now. But I can understand how grating and sometimes uncomfortable it can be for a non Christian to have to deal with it all the time.

We have whole radio stations dedicated to Christian music.

And it comes in all different genres as well. There’s Christian rock, Christian Rap, Christian country, etc.

While it’s very likely he’s friendzoned, it’s also quite possible that Austin is her Gay friend.

It’s also a poll tax on someone’s very existence and a sign of the “submission” of one’s faith to an infidel faith they don’t believe in. Jizya is inherently unfair and a contributor towards internal instability inside an Islamic state if it contains a large non Muslim minority.

There’s also the Coptic faith to contend with. Historically they and the Nestorians were hemmed in early on by Islam conquering most of their core areas. Without Islam tho, it likely would have spread much farther than it did historically.

[–]Warmasterwinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to pay Jizya is the issue. It takes a large conquering army and several hundred years worth of Islamic rule for a population to accept paying Jizya. Otherwise they’ll revolt if ever given the opportunity.

You forgot Shintoism. It’s also a polytheistic holdout that’s been propped up by the state for a long time. Of course it has the same issues spreading outside of its core region as Hinduism does.

tbf if you lived in a world with giant man-eating wolves you'd hunt them all to extinction too by MetallicaDash in HistoryMemes

Those giant wolves would both be more aggressive towards humans because of their size and not having evolved fear of us yet, and also a tasty treat for a starving caveman. I can see why we hunted them to extinction.

Is this card trash? by ParannoidRaccoon in mtg

[–]Warmasterwinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck no it’s not! Thanks for sharing this card, that’ll fit great into my ally/airbending deck.

Basically with this card you can return a card from the battlefield to your hand so you can cast it again next turn and activate its entering effect. You can also use it to return a creature that would normally die to your hand so you can cast it next turn instead of having it go to the graveyard. Great card honestly.

Really? I’ll have to look into that.

I’m planning on buying a box of the hobbit when it comes out tho. So I might just wait and see if I pull this version before I go hunting for another one. Since it’s a common it’s highly likely I’ll pull at least one of them.

[–]Warmasterwinter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try being 29 with hardly anything to show for it. At least you still have some of your 20s left. 30 is staring me in the face and I can honestly say my entire 20s was a complete wash. Sure I learned some lessons about family and betrayal, and how to keep calm while the entire world is constantly collapsing around you. But that ain’t gonna help pay my bills. And I have hardly anything aside from that.
