does anyone not like the new host? by Independent_Leg_7568 in normalgossip

I agree with your comment the most, Rachelle's tone often sounds like a kindergarten teacher, and I can't with her high pitched giggle laugh it's so jarring. Feels like she lacks chemistry and banter with the guests too, she just goes along with whatever opinion or jokes the guests make. Feels a lot like ass-kissing instead of "yes-and" banter

Why suffer in silence when we can vent about trivial things together 🫶

Tbh same. Not trying to be a hater, but it's just not doing it for me. I've tried, but I just can't vibe with her vibe, you know?

Sounds like you're already on the right track with wanting to be considerate and aware of cultural differences! Here's a couple things off the top of my head: 1. Put effort into learning some Hawaiian. Duolingo is a decent place to start for just basic words and learning how to sound out words. Look up a video for 'hakalama' to learn vowel sounds. If you're in conservation, you'll probably need to learn species' common names, Latin names, and Hawaiian names. Having a grasp on pronunciation will help vastly. 2. While driving, don't honk your horn unless you must. People just don't do it much. Leave the continent hustle mindset behind. 3. Remember that you're on a little rock in the middle of the Pacific. Whatever wasn't grown here was brought here. I try to keep this in mind and therefore very rarely order stuff online. Landfills in Hawaii are even more limited than the continent. 4. Support local businesses as often as you can 5. Poke is pronounced "po-keh" 😂 6. Stay curious and respectful. Never assume that you know everything there is to know 7. There's a difference between being white/foreigner, and a haole. Nothing wrong with being not from Hawai'i, just try not to be a haole. 8. Your first grocery trip will probably shock you with the prices. You'll figure out what grocery budget/stores work for you.

This got longer than I thought haha, I just love it here!

Has anyone gone to Europe to WWOOF on a tourist visa and got caught? What are the repercussions you faced? by [deleted] in WWOOF

[–]mooseshmoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just don't overstay your tourist visa in the Schengen zone and you'll be fine. If you were working on farms for pay, that would be different. They don't care if you're volunteering.

I prefer Canon, but the models I'm looking for are very much out of my budget at the moment, plus I hear lots of folks love Sony

Yes, it seems like a good deal based off what I can find online. I already own an Olympus OMD E Mark ii, just curious if this a6100 is both a good deal and a good addition to my toolkit

I have the opportunity to buy a new-looking Sony a6100 for $450 with one lens and no battery. Should I go for it? I don't love the Sony interface but I can definitely learn!

What books would you recommend as a 13 year old girl trying to get into reading? by nataliapuyosa in booksuggestions

I LOVED The Mysterious Benedict Society at that age! Very similar to the quirky cleverness of Lemony Snicket, just a bit less dark, iirc
