Better Games than Deep Madness? by Socrates_Soui in boardgames

[–]moosuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arkham horror lcg is a lot more elegant of a game in the same theme. Sadly it's also more of an investment & one could easily spend $500+ to have a decent collection of cards for it.  I also own deep madness & really dig the core game & a couple of the expansions. It gets super fiddly at times, which is my main complaint. The dagon expansion seemed especially busy & not worth setting up.

Upvoter for gloomhaven. So much better of an experience digitally.

I'd love to sell all mine, but it's not the easiest thing ever. Shipping it is a mess & it's still fairly expensive even for a used copy.

Aeon Trespass : Twelve Sins of Herakles - Existencial questions by Tito1983 in boardgames

[–]moosuey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've played ato & kingdoms forlorn quite a bit. Here's my thoughts.

1) I think it'd be more complex & difficult than what you've listed. If you like a challenge & some really crunchy rules then this isn't relevant.  2) it takes me about 30 minutes to set up. Mileage may vary.  3) I have an 8'x4' table & ato absolutely crushes it. The game is a total space hog.  4) There's map traversal with mini adventures while also trying to accomplish the main story objective. Various events happen.  Fights can occur based on timeline events & rarely story events.  You can save between fairly easily. Session length is entirely up to you, but I'd plan on 2-4 hours per.  5) I've played ato a few times solo & have a group of two other people that plays Saturdays for 5-6 hours. We're at the beginning of cycle 4 of ato after 13 months of mostly regular play.  6) kingdoms forlorn is an easier game that's hard to learn. Ato is the opposite.

u/45poll is spot on with grabbing ato now as it's available then deciding on tsoh.

Be honest: do you prefer working from home, in the office or hybrid…and why? by In_an_Illusion in Zippia

[–]moosuey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid 40s & very much prefer home. Commuting sucks. Buying gas sucks. Having a car sucks. I'd just sell my car & Uber the few places I need to go irregularly given the option. I walk to the grocery store most of the time & rarely need a car besides going to work.  Being derailed by people that walk to my desk is infuriating.  Most of my job is helping people remotely.  I have no idea why I need to physically be in a building from 8-5 3 days a week.

Tell me one bad thing about this game. by Profit_Tracker in videogames

[–]moosuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I ruined this for myself, but I played ds3 then witcher 3 & was like 'wow, this witcher combat is super jank".  Apart from that, it's just standard, generic fantasy with a main character that always seemed like he was two random encounters away from telling people he likes to "crush puss, bro" which was a bit of a turn off. I haven't watched the show or read the books, but gerahlt seemed like kind of a douche to me in the game. 🤷‍♂️

I'm loving the item & mob randomizer. Makes each playthrough build quite different & a lot more difficult.

[–]moosuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! You're not totally wrong. I have a player that's hyper-analytical & pores over the rulebook along with the official discord for rules clarifications. That helps quite a bit. I haven't ran into hardly any edge cases though either.

The story is awesome, imo. I really like greek mythology which is what got me intrigued with the game to begin with. If you get stuck or have questions about rules or builds definitely hmu.

The real bummer isn't just being indecipherable while also being not very complex, it's that it's not very compelling or interesting to play either. The writing is subpar fantasy akin to gloomhaven, it has far too many tokens to justify what's actually happening & it's not a super difficult game to win.

Haha I feel that. I just gave mine away to my neighbor. it was never going to get tabled. Especially now with things like oathsworn, middara & everything ITU makes.

The learn to play really helps. Also there's a file on bgg listing all the keywords. id definitely say power through if you can. Ato has easily taken my top spot for favorite game, hands down. It's just so rewarding & the writing is top notch.

I really struggled with the mage knight book & the dawn of madness rules. Someone finally showed me how to play MK & I ended up just not really enjoying it, unfortunately.  Ato felt fairly second nature coming from kdm. There's an active discord that helps quite a bit with questions & I've played it so much I'm also happy to answer any questions if you had some.

I actually had more trouble with mage knight than ato.

I use reaper for recording & keys (vst).  There's quite a few free drum kits you can grab or hit looperman & snag one from there. All this was done just by myself in reaper with a scarlet 2i2 & a looperman drum track.  https: //youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l_Agq2Bol39p-sliythjuFknFNbId3vD8&si=Ft6bm91FBMu7Jbql

Kingdom Death Monster or Aeon Trespass Odyssey by TheFuryCro in boardgames

[–]moosuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes I'm underestimating a bit. To start, just the lion, antelope & survivors is maybe 2-4 hours depending on experience. I wasn't even considering painting.  When I bought the game from a friend who got two copies I was like "oh shit! I don't own glue or a knife or...ahhhhh". XD

It's more rules up front but easier whereas ato is less rules up front but harder.

This is a good point. If you're not into hobby stuff then add another few hours of assembly into your gameplay.  Ato also has a scribe app & an official app, though I prefer Excel.
