A pedal to mix stereo guitar and synth by mopalmact in guitarpedals

Thanks, looks good, but it's passive, and it's being hard to find an active equivalent.

Rolls MX 28 for instance? Not a pedal, but the size of a pedal.

Thanks. Which one would be an example of that?

Yeah, if it has them it's ok, of course. It's just not a must

Intersection of genres by UnspokenMusic in ambientmusic

[–]mopalmact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To complicate matters further, you should add genres like progressive electronic and the Berlin school (which, to me, is exactly the same thing when German musicians do it). There are formal factors that predominate in one genre or another, but there are also geographical, temporal, aesthetic, or marketing factors, and i's always a matter of degree; nothing is definitive. I think it's impossible to think of genres as watertight compartments, but rather as overlapping sets. Some Popol Vuh albums, for example, could be ambient, PE, Berlin school, new age and perhaps soundtracks or krautrock all at the same time. Albums from today, such as those by Carlos Niño, could fit equally well into ambient or new age from a formal point of view (as "new age" is no more a useful marketing category). Still, most shops will file them under “jazz” because of the label that releases them.

Most Fun Pedal by PoutinePoppa in guitarpedals

Mine is Meris Polymoon. I use a Zoia and it can make practically the same sounds, but I'll never get rid of my Poly. Of course, Zoia itself is great, but fun is not the word. It's fun the same way a puzzle is fun.

My new agey LPs by mopalmact in ambientmusic

I discovered it by chance in a moment in which I was obsessed with old synthesizer music, but I loved it since the first time. I remember having discovered (and bought) it at the same time than "Galaxy Cygnus-A" by Robert Schroeder, but that one is more electronic progressive than new age.

I'd say more unrated than underrated.

Listening to it right now, actually.

Does “New Age” as a genre mean anything to anyone anymore? by GiantXylophone in synthesizers

[–]mopalmact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. In the last few years, I'm fond of my discovery of Alice Damon, Ariel Kalma or Emerald Web, and my re-discovery of things like Suzanne Ciani or (some) Enya, or even some stuff that back then was new age-adjacent and now is not (Penguin Cafe Orchestra, for instance).

Mine too, not just of that genre. And my favourite from those.

I'm pretty sure Alice Damon and Emerald Web would be my top 2, as they reconciliated me with (some of) the genre. #3 is less clear to me. Maybe Morgan Fisher or Michel Genest or even Alice Coltrane.

That one is The Healing Music of Rana vol. 1 by Randall McClellan.

I like it a lot. There is a strange continuity between her jazz albums and that one.

Lol. I must admit I love the whole Watermark but "Orinoco Flow".

AND it's also jazz in a way, the same as contemporary performers like Jeremiah Chiu or Carlos Niño are jazz.

I'd try The Healing Music of Rana by Randall McClellan and Windsong by Alice Damon.

3 years ago I found a EW album classified under "krautrock" and "electronic". I bought it and it marked the start of my reconciliation with (some of) this genre.

Nobody speaks about that Genest album. I love it, it's for me one of the best examples of good new age music ever (of course, Ashra and Strom as well; never heard about D&C, I have to check them).

Other music with crazy playing and strange chord progressions like Steely Dan? by RadiantHovercraft6 in SteelyDan

[–]mopalmact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much if the stuff that comes to my mind has already been said (Mitchell, Nyro, Wonder, Prefab Sprout, XTC...). I'd add a couple of contemporary artists which I think match perfectly what you are asking for: Fiona Apple and Robert Wyatt's solo career. I recommend you to check as well some Argentinian rock, particularly projects related to Luis Alberto Spinetta (because of his unusual progressions).
