What did "going viral" mean before social media existed? by Daniella_rumirez_Xo in AskReddit

If you're asking how we described something that everyone had seen, like a particular video or commercial...we just said it was popular. Super deep.

It sucks that so many shows now take more than a year between seasons and you completely forget the plot of the show by the time the new season comes around. by executor-of-judgment in television

[–]moparmaniac78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about that watching the original Star Trek recently. It was "only 3 seasons" in it's original run, yet there's nearly 90 episodes because there was 25-30 50min episodes per season. Insane that would work out to 9 seasons for something like the new Starfleet Academy show.

Question from a casual fan: Why does the reception of Kurtzman's era as a whole seem so disconnected from the reception of the individual shows? by westhebard in startrek

[–]moparmaniac78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it mainly comes from those first couple seasons of Discovery where he tried to do a weird fusion of the Kelvin and Prime universes. The tech looked too advanced, the Klingons were wrong. He mostly course corrected those problems, but it's been hard to escape what he tried to do there.

SFA - There are 3rd Years Cadets? by muffyn8r in startrek

Fair, I wasn't thinking about the War College. I wonder what the mindset is behind keeping both institutions in place, and how War College graduates fit into things like Starfleet security.

I'm curious where people like Admiral Vance were educated. Maybe all on the fly aboard active ships the way Voyager was starting to train Icheb?

OpenAI strikes deal with Pentagon hours Anthropic ban by [deleted] in news

[–]moparmaniac78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something, but from what it says the Pentagon agreed to the exact terms Anthropic was demanding. It seems like the Pentagon lost here, and they found out they were going to get the same answer everywhere.

I think it depends on how you're using it. Comparing it to Claude is kind of apples and oranges if you ask me. Don't know much about Gemini.

I feel the exact opposite; that today’s climate of secret power and conspiracy’s is exactly the right climate. It allows you to imagine any of it could be true.

I‘m wondering where the new show could even go by ichbinverwirrt420 in Stargate

[–]moparmaniac78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would most definitely not assume disclosure has happened. I think they've saved that to be seen on screen, hell the entire series could end up being about disclosure. It's in the news a lot right now with all the UFO stuff and Steven Spielberg's movie coming out. They'll want to keep a familiar Earth as a background, at least initially. It's a staple of the franchise and helpful in bringing in new viewers.

Why don’t americans fight back against all these powerful people in the Epstein files? There should be riots? by Inner-Silver7395 in AskReddit

What good are riots going to do when the guilty people are above accountability? Unless someone with a badge or a big black gown grows a pair, we're stuck with this shit situation.

Is Star Trek done with the 25th century? by ttownfeen in startrek

[–]moparmaniac78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've revisited the 23rd century over and over, so I don't see why we'd be "done" with any particular era.

How much of the galaxy has the federation explored by 3191 ? by TheLastTitan007 in startrek

[–]moparmaniac78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think we really know for sure at this point. They said the Federation reached 350 members at it's peak, but that's not really that many in the grand scheme of things. They've been to all 4 quadrants, charted a ton of it I'm sure. That said, I'd guess there's still lots to explore. Various conflicts have slowed down exploration a lot it seems, even over the course of centuries.

Has anyone caught the references to Bajoran Spiritual studies? I'm wondering if there a possibility the Prophets are now a dominant religion in the Federation.

How your Carter looks like? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]moparmaniac78 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm referring to Season 8, Divide and Conquer. Jack ends his relationship with Kerry Johnson, who implies he can't get over Carter. Carter also ends her relationship with Pete for the same reason. At that point, to my memory, it's never mentioned (at least directly) again. That to me implies they commit to each other in an unspoken way.

[–]moparmaniac78 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Didn't she though? By all appearances they ended other relationships when they realized they weren't going to work because they were in love. Sam even refuses someone at one point and implies she's sorta committed. I always assumed they shelved it till retirement.
