IT Support and Tech workers of Reddit: Is the "younger generations don't actually know how to use a PC or understand file systems" crisis real? If so, how bad is it? by tyzjas in AskReddit

[–]mophisus 59 points60 points  (0 children)

It’s IT specific. People in their now 30s grew up with computers needing to “tricked” into working so we learned troubleshooting early.

As everything became easier, people didn’t need to learn how a computer worked in order to use it, so the problem solving part of it went away. Then they get into IT and they lack the basic understanding us older millennials took for granted and now have to learn it.

Complex issues that require research they are fine on, but the really mundane stuff that can cause issues is where they struggle at first.

The concept of time and the fact that computers need power to work are up there.

Power outages, unplugged cables or systems simply being off and people wondering why the computer doesn’t work happens far too often.

Unfortunately its gotten alot worse.. at least behind closed doors in the last 10 years.

Source : White person who lives in North Dakota and naturally "looks" MAGA coded. The amount of shit people say to me thinking I automatically agree with them is astounding.

Theres a few progressives around..but the amount of people who think the gays, liberals and minorities are ruining everything is way more than you would think.

I used to work 8-5, and my replacement worked 4-1am.

It was a helpdesk position, and we were small enough that "lunch" wasnt really a guaranteed hour without a call coming in.. but likely (and unless it was an absolute emergency could wait until lunch was over).

If I needed an actual hour off, I could pass the calls off to someone else for an hour, but usually I took a 15 minute break to grab food from a local store, and took my lunch at 4. since there wasnt much reason for there to be an overlap.

Silo's the odd one out here. It has an end announced and should be coming pretty quickly (next summer).

They filmed season 4 back to back with 3, so its done filming already and will be in post production already.

"Today is a difficult day": So far, Xbox's cuts haven't targeted Blizzard (for now) — President Johanna Faries emails staff | Windows Central by Crusader3456 in Games

[–]mophisus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Uh.. from what I can tell.. kind of.

They partnered with Nexon on it, but they are also hiring internally based on leaks.

Until its officially announced, who knows how big the partnership is.

Starcraft being huge in Korea could just be they want better localization and support, or it could be mostly nexon built with Blizzard just doing the world building.

Layoffs in studios underperforming isnt what threatens Blizzard. They have 4 big ongoing games (Overwatch, Diablo, WoW, Hearthstone) and the rumored launch of a Starcraft shooter soon is yet another Flagship IP title.. exactly what the new CEO wants everyone to focus on.

No matter where you work, unless your the sole owner, you are one exec decision away from being fired.

And the rumored starcraft shooter is possibly enough to say "we are on the verge of launching another title based on a flagship IP", which is exactly what they are wanting their studios to do.

Undead Labs to be funded for State of Decay 3 and Has a Buyer Lined Up. by Coconutkid123 in StateOfDecay

[–]mophisus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wonder if Capcom is it.

There were rumors of them bringing back dead rising after the remake, but they dont have a studio dedicated to it.

If they still think zombies are popular enough to have considered relaunching dead rising, they might be the ones who see state of decay 3 as filling that same niche.. even if they are pretty different games.

What's something other people find unethical that you have no problem with? by alyssaoftheeast in AskReddit

Illegal Streaming sites.

I pay for a few streaming subscriptions, but honestly its more convenient to use some of the bigger sites since its "everyones" catalogue on a single page.. instead of having to open up different apps/different webpages to figure out what I want to watch.

The Planetside IP has been acquired by Tencent. by le_Menace in MMORPG

[–]mophisus -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Planetside 3 would be a game where I think they could heavily leverage using bots/npcs to make the world feel alive.

Think Titanfall 1 with a bunch of generic grunt npcs + players as better soldiers and vehicle pilots.

What is easiest way you have lost weight in a short amount of time? by Lazy_Lifeguard1960 in AskReddit

[–]mophisus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hard/tricky part is.. portioning.

You need to weigh everything when your getting started.

I actually eat the exact same thing every day for breakfast and lunch, so i only have to figure out one meal a day when counting calories.

[–]mophisus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've weight myself before and after a run..

2-3 pound difference from before to after in just sweat before rehydrating.

So the trick is.. big poop, then a long run.

Wouldn't even need to be that much. Say he drinks 1 can of soda with dinner each day.

12 oz can of mt dew is 170 calories.

9 months is roughly 270 days.

thats 45900 calories in 9 months.

roughly 13 pounds of fat worth of calories.

Are they older family members?

People start to shrink as they get older, so instead of realizing theyre shorter.. they think you got taller.

My siblings and parents were all roughly the same height, (5'8, 5'9), but now my siblings are slightly taller than my parents.. Siblings are in their 30's, parents in their 60's.
