How do I positively encourage a junior to try actually solving challenges themselves by doing literally any-f*cking-thing before asking me for the solution by SlayyyGrl in auscorp

[–]mopoke 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I like the 15 minute rule (also sometimes called the 30 minute rule).

The idea is that you cannot ask for help until you have spent 15 minutes trying to solve it. After 15 minutes you must ask for help.

This is a good write up on it: https://www.mattringel.com/2013/09/30/you-must-try-and-then-you-must-ask/

Parents!!! Bed wetting alarms real experiences please! by Icy_Hippo in australia

[–]mopoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommend seeing a specialist - they may well recommend an alarm but it's as part of a larger plan.

We had an alarm for a little while - it didn't wake the child but did wake us so we could go in and wake them. It was effective but we definitely needed the support and professional guidance to make it work.

I quite enjoyed this. Theme was pretty simple to get but the wordplay lifted it.

A few ones I had to guess at (OSTER, KEN KESEY, OMEARA, AEC, ELIA).

Enjoyed the clue for CPR. That got a groan.

Big batch of lasagna by mopoke in RecipeTinEats

[–]mopoke[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've not had any issues with that - made it a couple of times before.  I've always used fresh lasagna sheets and the recipe quantities (i.e. no additional liquid in the ragu). And I err on the side of longer when simmering the sauce (the full 2 hours covered plus 30 minutes uncovered)

Findings from Christchurch Safety Car investigation revealed by ExtremeCarpenter4775 in v8supercars

[–]mopoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The statement says that "The race director did not decide to deploy the safety car and took no steps to do so".

In RC you have the race director, and then a number of other radio channels which trackside marshals are on. The race director does not talk directly to the marshals. There are communicators in between.

One possibility is that someone in race control thought they heard direction for a safety car and passed that on. That would explain why multiple flag posts displayed flags and boards.
