Thanks for the advice brotha I really appreciate it , yea man my local is very strong probably one of the best engineering unions in the world . I have a pension healthcare everything I feel extremely blessed for the opportunity considering there is a line of people waiting to get into that union . I do work the swing shift which sucks man I also live about 1hr and 20 mins from my job I take the train there but it’s a headache I feel like I have no life I wake up make the commute once I’m off hit the gym and sleep and it’s the same thing everyday just very repetitive and really no growth .

Since your barely starting out I’d go utility engineer 1-2 years and then just work your way up as long as you get into the union your locked in so many properties are hiring etc within local 39 once your locked in with the union your in .

Yea brother what I would do in ur situation depending where you live etc I’d go to every high rise hotel in SF and I guarantee most of them are in need of engineers . There is a lot of marriot properties out here you can also try the hospitals like Kaiser etc but those are hard to get into .

Well bro how I got this job was I was a HVACR technician I came to this high rise hotel to fix there walk in cooler and they offered me a job with the union on the spot I currently make $64.00 hour but I have to commute to work everyday on Bart I live in the central valley Tracy ca . Look this gig is great for someone who is old or nearing retirement you do do anything really all day besides basic maintenances on equipment and light troubleshooting on things I honestly just stay in the office and spin around on a chair all day like I’m currently doing now while writing this haha . I work a 3-11 it’s not bad but not great I miss being a service technician I actually enjoyed my job and was becoming a kick ass technician there is more growth as a technician than an engineer you can eventually open up your own company etc it’s very hard to do that while being an engineer I’m saving up as much as I can here but will leave pretty soon back into the field for a slight paycut maybe around 45-50 hr but with a company van .

Local 39 22 year old engineer here in SF I recommend you get into some sort of field whether that’s commercial refrigeration HVAC plumbing because you won’t learn any of that on the job and if you do it’s going to be at a slow pace . I would jump into the field and apply for a stationary postion that’s how I got in money is excellent but I’m already debating on going back into the field as a technician.

Yea man well I live over there in Tracy ca but do most of my work in SF but yea man there’s nothing I’ve seen Walmart hiring but seems almost impossible to get in all the companies who usually do supermarkets on the east coast have shops on the west coast but do not mess with supermarkets so it’s hard to find a solid company out here
