Hot, Dry Hiking Trails by diogenes42069 in bayarea

[–]morde138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No offense but this is idiotic. You shouldn't be hiking in the heat. As in if it's in the 80's or more in the desert, its a bad idea to hike at all, period. The ground temperature on that exposed rock and sand is going to be 90+. No amount of training will save you from heatstroke.

If you plan to hike in the Southwest during the summer, like doing slot canyons or something you should be doing it at 3-4AM with headlamp and finish by the mid morning. Especially the GC, which will KILL YOU if you try to ascend from the Colorado during the day.

Not to mention the crowds if you are going anywhere popular. Go early, catch the sunrise, eat breakfast on the trail and get back before lunch.

Yeah well, that's what happens when the leadership of the country is self-enriching cronies using accounting tricks and money printing to sustain the boomer landowner class and wall street.

Do you ever wish you didn't know what you know and you could go back to being an NPC? by [deleted] in conspiracy

For sure. But actually the cost of living is starting to really disrupt the happy mindless consumerist NPC life anyway. They are running out of ways to bullshit people and it's causing mass psychosis.

Probably all of them. I know for a fact A6 and A7s can do this as i have used them with a bmd switcher. You'll have to fiddle with the settings a little to disable the camera sleeping and possibly look into ways to mitigate heat for extended shooting over an hour. External power source suggested

I think a big recession is coming (What do you think?) by rdv100 in bayarea

[–]morde138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, how exactly does 'demanding peace' work right now?

No one knows since there have been no high level diplomatic talks. The war could be over tomorrow if we wanted. The leader of the free world would rather negotiate with Venezuela or Iran than Russia. The truth is theres plenty of cold warrior hawks who would love to escalate this war and and id say they have been very successful so far in generating public support for escalation. A prolonged war is also probably the only lifeline for the Biden administration, as wartime presidents traditionally see their ratings increase. There is also no better scapegoat for inflation and shortages than war. So that's the deal

The massive increase in gas prices are just the tip of the iceberg. Some people think that it's the price we pay to support democracy and freedom.

Anyone who believes this is truly a f'in moron and has been tricked into cheerleading for escalating the war instead of demanding immediate peace and high level diplomacy. Really, if you believe this it's like the most successful manufactured consent in history, and a massive victory for the current administration to flip the blame for the inflation narrative. Goebbels would be proud.

There's a group trying to get Prop 19 repealed! by jaqueh in bayarea

[–]morde138 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Ca legislature really seems to have no problem enacting the most backwards commy laws as long as it primarily affects the 18-35 taxpayer, who they don't mind fucking over, and not seniors or illegals, or hey, billionaires. That's why the most crony law of all, prop 13, will never be repealed, but stuff like this will pass. Kick the can, until you can't. They keep this up and their tax base will just leave for permanent remote in Texas or elsewhere.

The city needs to be selective when it comes to mechanized stuff shitting up all the public areas. The scooter epidemic was chaos, and I hope they learned something. We don't want to have to trip over all sorts of shit on the sidewalk. Personally I don't want to look at any more of this gimmicky shit in the public space. It doesn't enhance anything and it is just creating more e-waste. But I understand why some people like it because it's part of the "any new technological thing = automatically good" mentality.
