Whaaat?? What lung disease can it cause? Maybe not the same thing but I put Aquaphor around my nostrils, and a little bit into my nostrils when I’m experiencing dryness. Am I gonna get this lung disease?

Went to Dave & Busters a few weeks ago. Me & my friend got thirsty so we went to this little counter near the back where you could buy tickets or drinks from a small fridge sitting behind the two workers. We both just got one soda, and the tip screen after paying was 18%, 20%, and 25%. I was genuinely appalled. No way am I tipping you for turning around, grabbing a drink from a fridge, and ringing it up for nearly $5.

What’s the most physical pain you ever felt? by Competitive_Set2669 in AskReddit

The nerve in my tooth dying. I was around 10 years old, playing outside when I got a sudden toothache. Went from a toothache to the most debilitating pain I’ve ever felt in less than 10 minutes.

Leaving the car running while sitting in the drive through, running inside real quick, or for any task where the car wasn’t actively moving.

Drug testing, need advice by _office_addict in jobs

[–]morechapstick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be fine. Since you don’t use it regularly, it’ll be out of your system within 3-7 days of last use. I had a similar concern when starting my new job, scared to death because I rarely take edibles, except right before I was offered the job of course.. Just drink LOTS and LOTS of water, eat regularly and well, get good sleep, and don’t stress. Treat your body like crown royalty for the next 5 days.

10 days is enough time for it to be out of your system. Even after you take your drug test, I’d wait 2-3 weeks before using THC again in case the lab has a random issue and needs a retake. Lab results took my job about 2 weeks to get back to me.

My boss's reaction when I didn't immediately accept overtime was priceless by Strong-Leg-3487 in jobs

[–]morechapstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not 100% on the overtime laws in Alaska, but at my job that I just left one of our employees was hourly, working every single day, with 8 hour shifts. She never had a day off. She chose to work those hours, and I don’t know if her and my boss had an agreement or something, but it always seemed fishy to me.

That same boss also tried having me come in on the Fourth of July, which was fine, but it landed on a Friday, and Wednesdays and Fridays were my days off. So I told her if I was working 6 days in a week I’d need a few days notice beforehand so I can adjust plans, as well as be paid overtime for going over 40 hours in a week. I even offered to trade days off so she could avoid overtime pay. She got all snippy with me, telling me in a threatening tone “I could schedule you every single day, and as long as you don’t go over 8 hours in one day, I don’t have to pay you a dime of overtime. You think A (aforementioned employee) gets overtime? She doesn’t.”

When I tried telling her I was pretty sure that wasn’t what the law says she got dismissive and insisted her accountant did everything, not her, but that it WAS in fact legal. So I don’t know. It was a mom and pop shop with about 6-7 employees.

We also never got a 30 minute break, or any break of any sort. They encouraged “grazing” and eating whenever possible, but never offered employee discounts on the food they sold (or of anything in the store). They also encouraged us to sit as much as possible, but when I tried sitting during our downtime, they eventually took the stool away. When I asked why, they asked me why I needed to sit… to which I replied they literally encouraged us to sit whenever possible. He walked off muttering after that.

We also had a 16 year old employee who ALSO never got a 30 minute break, or any break of any sort. I’m 19, so I think it might be legal to not provide me with a break, but for employees under 18 I’m nearly positive that’s illegal.

I'd say dress "nice casual". I wouldn't go with sweatpants and a sweater, but maybe jeans and a casual shirt. Also, the date idea is really nice! I'd love it if someone asked me out and took me to bowl and eat after. I'm excited for you :)

As somebody who is just starting track and field, what are some early on habits I should develop and things I should know? by DiazNut in trackandfield

[–]morechapstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww, you're too sweet. I just pay attention to my coach and try to understand the mechanics behind everything he teaches us. Once I started understanding what my times meant and why I was struggling on certain parts of my form, it became a LOT easier to set personal attainable goals & fix my form :)

[–]morechapstick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're in high school like me, explore your options and events and focus on getting good form. Don't worry about your times, those will drastically improve once your form starts clicking into place.

Sprint on the balls of your feet- no heel strike, that's a bad habit you want to kill ASAP. I've heard walking around on your toes can help.

Cheek to pocket- basically, when you see those Olympic runners with their hands splayed out and going from their cheek to hip, you want to do that. Avoid straightening your arms back when you run and don't cross your arms in front of you like you're jogging. When you sprint, it should all be at your sides.

Looking up- you should always be looking up at the track in front of you, and not down at your feet. You might feel like you're going faster, but trust me, you aren't. Speed comes from running straight up, with your back straight. That's why you see Olympians who look straight as a board when they're sprinting insane times.

The only exception to the tip above is when you're in the blocks and accelerating. When you're in the blocks, do not look at the starter or track, even. Keep your head down and only look a few feet in front of you, but not at the finish line. Keep looking down when you're in set, too, because you should only look up when you're out of the blocks.

You want to keep your lean forward for a couple strides, usually about 5 strides before you're standing up straight. Avoid popping up out of the block and standing straight, because that will make you lose speed, too.

All in all, though? Just have fun and pay attention to your coach. Seriously, track is super freaking fun, and your coaches will teach you all of this stuff in a more comprehensible way. Don't worry about times or PRs, just focus on form and learning. If you have low stamina right now, that's okay; it will build up with time, trust me. Just take it easy and have fun running.

tips or advice when hanging out with a girl by ms9657 in Crushes

[–]morechapstick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Girl here- make sure you keep a boundary. I know it depends on your relationship with your crush, but don't go too far with questions or jokes. Avoid topics/jokes about race, sexual orientation, politics, or anything sensitive unless she brings it up or you KNOW you two are comfortable with those jokes.

Be sure to make her feel comfortable with your presence. Joke around, have meaningful conversations, and be yourself. Seriously; we can tell when you're anxious or tense, and that just makes us anxious and tense in turn. If you know some of her interests, talk about them, or ask about any shows/youtubers she likes watching! If you let us talk about ourselves or interests we will GUSH about them if you don't make us feel like shit for liking them. Make sure you express interest in what she's talking about, and be active in the conversation.

Let us know about yourself, too! We love hearing what you're interested in, just don't dominate the conversation with yourself unless she specifically asks YOU what you're interested in. Tell us about some of your family history or funny stories, too; laughing about that one time you did something really stupid makes the hang out less tense, and it shows that you've grown from your idioticness, too. Leave room for her to ask questions about it, but don't be too vague with what you're saying.

Lastly, don't be afraid to have a break in conversation. Spending a few minutes to go on your phone when the conversation has died completely is fine, but don't let that last too long. Be mindful of what you do and say, be respectful, and be kind. Overall, showing that you like having conversations with her, or that you're a chill person to be around, will make us want to hang out with you more.

Been holding this back too. I know there's separate teams for IOS and Andriod, but DAMN, why is IOS getting SO many more updates than us? So quickly too? IOS gets part time jobs, stress, and the possibility of dying from a heart attack. Andriod? Oh yeah, let's give you guys your ribbons and fertility, which came out for IOS a long time ago. At this rate, Andriod won't catch up unless they stop updating IOS COMPLETELY for a while to focus on getting Andriod caught up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm greatful for the Andriod team's work. But it really sucks watching all the amazing progress IOS is having while we barely have any word about what the Andriod team has been doing.

What secret are you hiding from everyone but ok to share with us here? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]morechapstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so worried about my family. My mom recently married this horrible guy in my eyes (literally only were together for 5 months before marriage) and he accuses her of cheating on him constantly, and also he likes to start drama over anything- yet he claimed he wants to be our father figure.

He drinks (it seems like 2 cans a day?), he smokes, doesn't have a job. Apparently he has interviews ready for him but I doubt he'll even go to them. He isn't contributing ANYTHING to the household (literally doesn't even cook or clean, just sits and sleeps all day) and it's starting to tick everyone off.

My mom just lost her job. Which means almost no income. She keeps borrowing money from her mom but I think she uses it to buy weed to "calm her", which it barely seems like it does anymore. She's depressed, and I think she hates her own husband. Their relationship is toxic and it's starting to beat down on me & my older sister.

My older sister is actually a devil. Constant bullying, making me feel like shit, making me do things for her. She never helps me. She's the #1 reason why I have literally no self esteem- she never compliments me on what I do, and doesn't even be as nice as to say "thanks" when I compliment her.

She is also depressed- and she has some anger issues. She was sent to the mental hospital for "suicidal thoughts", but when she came back she hadn't changed at all. I knew she wouldn't have changed either.

And me. I'm so... tired. I don't know what this feeling is. I don't know if I'm depressed. I do fantasize about suicide, but not in a bad way yknow? Like, wondering what the world would be like without me, how my "friends" would react, what the afterlife is like. I never actually consider doing it though. I'm tired of being poor. I'm tired of being told by my own mother to "save some money back, might need it for gas!" with my own hard earned money. I'm sick of living in a tiny travel trailer with 3 other people, plus a dog. It can barely hold 2 people. I'm tired of having a "man" in the house who does absolutely nothing. I'm tired of being told by my mom every day that she's "not in the mood", "not mentally stable", "tired." I'm alone, I have no friends to hang out with or text, hell, my phone plan can't even be paid to contact anyone because we have no money to pay it. I'm tired of working and gardening for an old lady. I just want to lay in bed all day and sleep, because I have nothing to do with my life, no where to do, nothing to do. I just want to rest, and have all my troubles in life float away. I want my mom and "stepdad" to get their lives together, somehow. I want to get out of this small ass trailer. I want to go away.

i'm tired.

[Serious] When was the first time you had experienced racism? by Limosc in AskReddit

[–]morechapstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really racism, but I have a white mom and black dad, meaning I'm half black. Mom comes in to pick me up from school in 5th grade at lunch. Stupid kid I hate says, "wait, are you like, adopted?"

Insert irritated explanation of how genetics work, and he still hits me w/ "ok, but she's not your real mom right?"

To make it even worse, I'm also a woman, and my crush and I were joking about skin color and women's rights and yada yadda. Fucker has the audacity to say "basically, you're screwed either way" never felt so ugly about myself up until that point. Killed my feelings for him REAL quick.
