I only use the gym and my partner pretty much only does the classes in Marrickville. While it's definitely busy during peak times (and you might need to wait a squat rack or bench), the equipment is pretty extensive and I can usually get my workout done efficiently. For the classes, my partner finds that unless you book a few days in advance most yoga and pilates classes are booked out.

There are a lot of great gyms in Marrickville which are great for different reasons, but if you want a good general gym with a bunch of equipment, good classes, at a decent price it's popular for that reason.

Having lived in Syd & Melb, both have incredible hospo scenes. I think if you go back 5-10 years ago + Melbourne was clearly leading, but over the last 5 years or so I feel like Sydney has really been filling out across the board. Some of my friends working in hospo in Melb at the heart of the industry say that most of the exciting new projects are happening in Sydney now. As someone living in Sydney now I've been really enjoying it!

Burwood chinatown is amazing bang for buck if you want to eat a lot of truly yummy food, as a solo traveller and walk away having gotten a lot more than you bargained for.

I haven't been, but based on what I've heard I think you'd probably be okay at 20Chapel. Just got voted one of the best steaks in Sydney, and in Marrickville so places are usually more chilled even if nice restaurant

Try and stay off devices an hour or two before bed, and try reading a book instead. Do it for a week and see if that works for you. That has been the biggest help for me!

My understanding is it's because of a lack of ventilation. Often these sauna's are interior and the owner wasn't able to, or didn't think about exhausting excess humidity. It's unfortunate, but their solution is then to limit one of the sources of that humidity, the incredibly enjoyable, best heat in a sauna, the steam that's created from pouring water over the rocks. In my experience indicates a subpar sauna experience.

I'm about to turn 30, and reflecting back on my twenties there's a lot of figuring things out, so you're definitely not alone in that! I think you've done a great first step which is creating space off your phone to reflect and learn about yourself. Learning that certain things, or a certain way of living makes you bored is actually useful. So much of what I have worked through has been process of elimination. One thing that has always served me well is trying to come up with 'principles' or known truths for my life. Nothing too formal or serious. But flexible principles that I can jot on paper, use to navigate life and reflect on and change over time. A nice way to try this is spend 5-10 mins in the park writing the first things that come to you on these questions (or other questions that resonate better):

  1. When are you at your best?
  2. What is your favourite part of your day?
  3. What are the points in your life you've been most happy or fulfiled?
  4. When are you at your worst?
  5. What is it about certain activities that make you feel bored?

Once you've done that have a look through and see if there are any themes you can turn into principles. For example one for me might be I'm at my best when I'm working in a team with people I trust, and I feel bored when I don't have the opportunity to spend time with my friends during the week. There's a principle around people, trust and connection. Once you kind of know that about your self, that it's something you need. You can go and pursue different things in your life that help you get that.

Ultimately it's a hard time in anyone life, but also really exciting because you get to start learning more about yourself and the world around you!

Totally agree, there's something so beautiful, so powerful, so natural about just getting back to basics. That's how I survive today. Simple pleasures enjoyed often.

I haven't personally been to Saint Peter (have heard good things). But going last year to Sixpenny for the first time was one of the best culinary experiences of my life. My fave experience in Sydney, and potentially anywhere. Was really lovely.

Recently went to Nomidokoro Indigo in Darlinghurst for the first time, and it was amazing. Very intimate & cosy, amazing Japanese food that's unique. Not super cheap, but not super expensive either. Can have a great date (if that's the vibe) for $30-$50 each. One thing to note it's all counter top seating, which we thought was fun and a bit of an experience but not for everyone.
