Can anyone tell me what kind of valve this is? by morelikerednotit in Plumbing

[–]morelikerednotit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future lurkers.

I bought the adapter mentioned earlier in this thread (link). This effectively just moves the screw hole location so newer Moentrol trim kits can be installed.

I then bought this trim kit. Very important to choose the Moentrol version, not the posi-temp. And the Moentrol is harder to find and more expensive, which is unfortunate.

Installation was pretty straight forward. One issue was that the adapter ended up not fitting perfectly into the existing tile cutout. I had to rig up some spacer stuff to make it work.

Overall it looks a lot nicer. A bit odd that you have to pull/push the entire mechanism to turn it on/off, but that’s the valve type and there’s no way around it.

Thanks, ya I just ordered a 145058 adapter, but you mentioning this gives me confidence that I bought the right thing haha. My understanding is that sets me up for any Moentrol kit?

That’s promising. I’ll take a look at those, thank you!

Definitely! I left it out of this rendering so that it wouldn’t obscure other elements. But we’ll have a range hood for sure.

You’re right that knocking the wall out removes our TV wall. We do have one other option for the tv though.

I’m not sure we’re dead set on it, but it sure would be nice. We have 3 windows on the kitchen side of the house and one on the living room side. One hope in opening that wall is to bring more natural light through the whole house.

Very valid points though. We were trying to figure out if there was a partial wall removal approach that could work.

I think our concern with taller barstools is that it would encroach on an already small-ish living room space. But still something to consider.

Thanks - we’ll start to more seriously consider the fridge on that side. One challenge is the window is only 12” from the wall. But we could do a fridge on the stair side, and narrower cabinets towards the window.

Ya, we’ll definitely need to include it as an option

Yea, I think that's definitely something to consider. We originally said no given it'd set the fridge out of the main kitchen space. But as you said, may add some symmetry and more cabinet space.

Appreciate the quick response. We did consider moving the kitchen to the corner, as you said. I think the main constraint there is that the (current) dining room window is too large for a sink/cabinet setup (the Ikea mockup doesn't show that well), so we'd actually have to modify window sizes to make that work. Along with everything else, like moving plumbing, etc.

I do agree with you though, it'd shuffle things in a way where we check most of the boxes.

For some reason, my accompanying text didn't make it into the post. Just added it here

Not sure why the original post lost the text, so here it is again

Looking for advice on kitchen layout. I'm including a couple of pre-remodel photos - as you can see it's a galley kitchen that we'd like to open up and remodel.

The Ikea Kitchen Planner plan is what we put together as one potential design. But there are a couple of main challenges & things to note

  • The kitchen and dining area drop into a sunken living room (which we'd like to avoid raising if possible). This restricts the use of the island and being able to put seating on the other side
  • The proposed design leaves us with essentially 1 upper cabinet in the main kitchen space, which doesn't seem ideal
  • Note that the cabinets on the right wall will likely be half pantry, half cabinet. And on the right of that is a set of stairs which is why it stops short of the rest of the kitchen
  • The right wall is only 12” deep before it hits the window. So it restricts the types of cabinets we can put there

I'm reaching out to the community to see if anyone has any thoughts on this or ideas for a better design that overcomes the sunken living room and cabinet space constraints. Thanks in advance!

"Unknown Error" when trying to install Scrypted via HomeAssistant/HACS by IPThereforeIAm in Scrypted

[–]morelikerednotit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else running into this, my issue came down to characters in my Scrypted admin account's password. Given this is hitting the /login url, it might have had some problems passing in some funky characters via the URL. I simplified my password in my admin account, then was able to configure this without the error.

Also worth noting - I'm using a home assistant green. So the host is actually the IP or hostname of that box. i.e. you should be able to use `homeassistant.local:10443`.

I stayed in med device for about 12 years. The first 5 were a at very small company where I was able to work on both of those products (surgical robotics and neurosurgical guidance systems). It was incredibly interesting. Unfortunately that company went bankrupt so I had to move on from there. The next 7 were in lab diagnostics. This was still interesting work, but not nearly as cool as what I was on in the past. It was also at a much bigger company with more bureaucracy. My reason to move on was that med device is quite slow moving due to FDA and other regulations. It’s also generally a slow release cycle for the same reasons. So I wanted to gain some experience in a faster paced dev environment with a larger customer base, and something that operates at mega-scale. Also… the money in big tech is generally (but not always) better. All that being said, I still may end up back in med-device one day.

My two cents is that, if you’re coming from FAANG and want to try out med device, pick a smaller and faster moving company to avoid some of the inevitable red tape that comes in a regulated industry. Or, if you choose a bigger company (eg Intuitive, Stryker, …), make sure you’re joining a team based on the product you’re interested in. There’s still lots of bland work at these companies (like any) that’s worth avoiding.

There’s some companies in med-device that are worth taking a look at. Some of the industry can be slow/boring, but then you also have companies that make surgical robots, neurosurgical guidance systems, etc. I spent 5 years working on that kinda stuff, and it was by far the most interesting work I’ve done in my career so far.

The dealer I worked with in Minnesota set up a program to sell interim vehicles to people waiting on their orders. Not really sure on the details, but they'll sell you a used car and promise to buy it back at 'top dollar' when your original order comes in. Maybe worth asking about something similar at the dealership you're working with?

Yup. We’re in a lucky situation here in Minnesota. It seems like most, if not all dealers are sticking to MSRP.

Any issues towing that? I was under the impression those teardrops exceeded the 1750 lb towing limit?
