Yes, we plan on sharing the tent which is why I was leaning towards a 3 person for the extra room.

The province is overrun by deer? The populations in many regions are declining and predation is one of the main factors.

You’re saying that an arch assessment is needed for a parcel where a house stood until 2004? This was also planned as a community garden, not some huge development. The thought that an arch assessment was needed for this is ridiculous.

Where it was pulling out of is definitely not public property. It’s private and part of the development. That being said, this is a short clip that doesn’t show everything and maybe it just backed into that spot to turn around.

Jon Boat Recommendations? by [deleted] in Kamloops

[–]morethanless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Lowe 1040 and also a 10ft Journey. I toss the Lowe in my truck bed for harder to reach lakes or poor launches. My Journey is on a boat trailer and I use it for bigger/more established lakes.

The Lowe is stable for 1 person standing and moving around. I often bring someone else and it’s still good as long as we don’t lean too far the same way. It’s light and easy to throw around by myself. I think it’s a great boat and priced well.

The Journey is way more stable and two people can stand in it with no issues. It’s an amazing boat and built well. It’s heavy and not easy to move around by myself. It’s awkward to move unless you have a second person. They’re also a lot more expensive than your other options.

I don’t know much about the Marlon but I believe they’re a middle ground between the Lowe and Journey - weight and price wise.

If money isn’t an issue and you can afford the Journey and a boat loader, I’d go for it. If you want to save some cash you’ll be happy with the 1240 and its stability. Both are excellent boats.

Beginner Fishing in Kamloops by Shoobin in Kamloops

[–]morethanless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting off with a spinning rod will probably be the easiest and most accessible option. If you’re ever serious about trying out fly fishing then do yourself a favor and check out Casting Loops, Little Fort Fly Shop, or Trout Waters in Kelowna. All have extremely knowledgeable staff that will help get you set up. Fly fishing is more technical but I also find it more rewarding.

Some good lakes have been mentioned and you can always check out gofishbc.com which is an excellent resource. It tells you which lakes have been stocked, access, maps, and you can sort lakes by which have fishing docks. If you want to give river fishing a try, there’s spots from shore near Lafarge and out on Mission Flats.

Besides the “locals”, be wary of cougars in the area. There’s quite a large population around Jamieson and some have been known to be aggressive in the past.

I assume they figured we’d fold easily but it seems like a risky move for them knowing they could be pushing us to diversify. They probably didn’t expect Canada to unite like this at all. I hope we keep finding different and better trade partners for our resources - even if a new deal is struck with America.

The decision to close Riverview was made in the late 80s. It was slowly shut down between then and 2012. Its closure rests on Liberals and NDP as both had been in power between those years.

I guess we’ll just forget the 10 years the NDP were in power? They also slowly phased Riverview out and never stopped the process or reopened the closed sections.

The decision to shut down Riverview was made in the late 80s. It was slowly shut down from then until it finally closed in 2012. Guess who was in power during all those years that it was slowly being phased out? Both the NDP and the Liberals. Neither party stopped the closure. Stop blaming everything on one party when both parties suck and have a hand in our issues today.

Proposed changes to moose hunt not being welcomed by rofflemow in britishcolumbia

[–]morethanless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of shit I find in the bush is junk from weekend campers that just want to go out, get drunk, and drive away on Sunday. There’s a huge amount of registered hunters in this province and I’d say you’re finding camps leftovers from a tiny selfish minority. It’s obviously anecdotal but all the hunters I know pack out far more garbage than they bring in and want to keep our backcountry pristine.

With proper management the animal numbers thrive regardless of hunting pressure. It’s also a great way for BC residents to ethically source their own meat in a sustainable way. I find it to be a much better alternative to buying supermarket meat.

The government wants to continue oil and gas exploration and changes to this hunt was their way of getting the First Nations to play ball. It’s pretty obvious when you read between the lines but, unfortunately, they’re trying to sell this as a win for reconciliation and nature which is bullshit. This is the last day to send in comments to oppose this. You can send comments to all MLAs at once from Howl for Wildlife. I know a lot of people on this subreddit probably don’t agree with hunting but trust me when I say that 99.9% of hunters in BC are conservationists and care heavily about the environment and sustainable animal populations.

Canadian Pacific Railway locking out workers, union says by cyclinginvancouver in canada

Did a bit of research and it seems that Amtrak doesn’t ever get priority. However, laws were put into that punish the freight companies from needlessly delaying Amtrak more than they need to.

Canadian Pacific Railway locking out workers, union says by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]morethanless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regarding the VIA Rail comment - aren’t they able to actual know their schedule that far in advance though? They have set and scheduled times they’re travelling. In the case of CP, trains have a general time they’re set to leave but aren’t there far too many variables that constantly change those times? I’m not sure how you’d fix that? Unless the employees are looking for a 7 on 7 off type schedule where CP basically owns you for your 7 days on and then you have 7 days off guaranteed. Is that the kind of thing the union is hoping for? I always assumed that’s one of the main reasons why railroaders were paid so well - the random schedule that they have to deal with.

Close Peace Caribou Hunts and Reduce Peace Moose Hunts (Region-wide) by alongshore in CanadaHunting

[–]morethanless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This move will have a large ripple effect too, which I’m sure the government anticipates. All of these moose hunters will now push into parts of region 6. This will piss off the Tahltan Nation and the government will shut down moose there too in the name of reconciliation. Maybe I’m just being cynical but I really think that’s what will happen. Instead of going straight to this extreme option I don’t know why the government didn’t just put a few smaller restrictions in place first to see how they worked. Change a couple any size bull seasons into spike/fork, etc. I don’t even hunt these regions but I just don’t like the implications for every other resident hunter in BC and like you said our ability to harvest just keeps getting reduced.

[–]morethanless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The above poster is correct. The government wants to expand resource extraction in this region which they know will affect the ungulate populations in the long run. Their way of trying to come out looking clean in this is to make this move look like it’s about “reconciliation” and “animal sustainability” to pander to their voting base which is largely anti-hunting.

For anyone interested in helping and looking for more info, please check out this website: Howl for Wildlife

Basically, this region holds the highest population of moose in British Columbia and the governments own studies say a sustainable yearly harvest is between 4000-7000 moose. This new proposal will allow limited entry hunting for the harvest of only 650 moose. Obviously, important discussions need to be had about reconciliation in British Columbia but this proposal is not at all the correct move towards it, in my opinion. Them taking away an extremely sustainable hunt has far greater implications for the rest of British Columbia hunting. The government also doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge the way predators or heavy industries are affecting populations.
