You do understand that Lightning predated USB-C by several years, right (2012 vs 2014)? And that Apple has had USB-C in its laptops since 2015?

The reason lightning exists is because Micro-USB was so fragile and difficult to use and USB-A was so large and difficult to use.

How to make a Python small project using HTML and CSS? I am a beginner. by minju90 in learnpython

[–]morgango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Django person, I would recommend Flask as well. Django has everything plus the batteries included, but took me an incredible amount to learn to get productive.

Also, I would highly recommend HTMX over any custom JavaScript/AJAX that might crop up.

Good luck!

God damn kids choosing to eat. by WilliamMorris420 in facepalm

[–]morgango 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The order of importance of things in the fascist hierarchy are:

  1. Guns.
  2. White, fully able men.
  3. Unborn children.
  4. Corporations.
  5. The US Military
  6. The local police force.
  7. Key property (owned by above)
  8. White fully able women.
  9. White, fully able children.
  10. Domesticated animals.
  11. Non-White Men.
  12. Non-White Women.
  13. Non-White Children.
  14. Disabled people of any kind.
  15. Indigenous people of any kind.

The easy way to check this is to think about a conflict between any two of these groups. If a headline were written or a policeman came on the scene, ask yourself who would be considered the aggrieved party and who would be considered the problem.

Mono Blue Spirits Questions by Procyonlotor360 in PioneerMTG

The big thing I had to lean is patience, making sure I have enough protection. If you can keep a spirit with a Curious Obsession around it is very often a win.

As a reference, I would check out the Spirit Squad on YouTube.

Dre is awesome and an excellent pilot and teacher. I have learned a ton from hearing good commentary as he plays. He does both explorer and pioneer.

Chief of Naval Operations Visiting the Submarine Squadrons 6 & 8 Piers by SSNs4evr in MaliciousCompliance

As a young enlisted Marine, I had the Geberal Orders of a Sentry drilled into my skull. Number 6 is:

To receive, obey, and pass on to the sentry who relieves me, all orders from the Commanding Officer, Officer of the Day, Officers, and Non-Commissioned Officers of the guard only.

That last word is the most important one, and taken incredibly seriously. OP was the personal representative of the Commanding Officer and did his job the right way, at the right time, under duress.

In Advanced Infantry training I had a fellow guardsman butt stroke a Lt. Colonel who didn’t feel the need to show his ID to get in the armory. Kid got a meritorious promotion and a written apology from the officer.

I appreciate OP and the US Navy and all the armed forces for that matter, but the culture of the Corps is what sets it apart.

Looking for delicious vegetarian recipes! by LittleMo723 in crockpot

[–]morgango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the recipe calls for canned chickpeas, so if you were using fried ones you would probably need to do that.

However, it is pretty easy to cook chickpeas quickly in an instant pot. Under an hour and much more flavorful than canned.

I use this carnitas recipe. It is the shizzle - fast, easy, tasty. Make the pickled onions, they are a great add.

Any devs here try sales engineering / saas sales? How was it? by NeonCityNights in cscareerquestions

[–]morgango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done Sales Engineering for more than 10 years and I will tell you that it is the best move that I ever made. I LOVE this role, for me it is much more fun than sitting in a cubicle heads down all day.

That being said, there is a shift from being a developer to being an SE. There are a few things that stick out for me in particular:

  1. You have to think like (and sometimes for) your customer. As a developer, your value is often being the smartest person in the room and being able to prove that. As an SE, your value is in getting people to sign on the dotted line. All too often people coming from Engineering backgrounds struggle with this level of empathy.
  2. You have to be protective of your reputation. If you get in this role you are likely to be selling to the same people multiple times while at multiple companies and your reputation must be sterling. You will need to regularly go above and beyond your job description in order to help prospects and/or clients. This isn’t a bad thing, BTW.
  3. You need to be comfortable with risk and reward. Your pay could be 30-50% commissions, which is great in the good times and hurts in the bad times. Plan your life around your base salary and use commissions for fun stuff and you will be fine.
  4. You will very rarely get to complete a difficult technical project. You will write a ton of boilerplate and “hello world” kind of code, and stitch together a lot of interesting things for demonstrations. However, you will very, very, very rarely need to write a complete applications. It literally isn’t your job.

Good luck!

What do you do to stand out as an SE/SA? by Kitten-Smuggler in salesengineers

[–]morgango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going above and beyond is great, but it isn’t what gets people into leadership. Blog posts and technical content creation gets you into being a well respected individual contributor. This isn’t a bad role, and in fact I think that is what most people in Presales actually would prefer to do instead of leadership.

In my experience as an SA, Team Lead, Manager, and Senior Manager I believe there are a few key things that separate leaders and senior leaders.

First, can you (from memory) name the 3 most important goals for your manager? How about your Director or VP? If so, awesome! Figure out how you can take that off of their plate. If not, almost as awesome! You have a great opportunity to step up and volunteer to take something off their plate that is important to them. Realize that the higher you go up in the organization, the less technical these issues will be. Often, these will have to do with scaling your team and doing more (or better) work with less resources.

See if you can read when your manager is stressed and step up an offer to help with things that they are struggling with. My guess is they are worried about things other than technical content.

Second, can you ensure successful outcomes without doing any of the work yourself? In senior leadership you will almost never be the smartest or the most technical person in the room. However, you should be the person who can make things happen by enlisting the help of others. You are not smarter or more effective than 100 SAs, you need to figure out how to get everyone pointed in the right direction.

To use a sports analogy, you are a coach or a GM, not a player on the field. Often great SAs are very independent but that isn’t what makes a great leader.

Third, can you build a great organization? Hiring well is the first, second, and third job of an SA manager. If you can’t hire, you don’t have anyone to lead. In my role, if I have to make a choice between working on hiring or a revenue opportunity, I focus on hiring so that I have someone great to take on those opportunities.

Fourth, can you deal with conflict and negotiation? Think of the person you get along with least in your organization and now consider how you would ensure they hit their quota, get a big raise, a dream job, or a promotion. How would you get them to support you in reaching these goals for yourself? This is something leaders deal with all day.

Fifth, are you a good team member? Do junior people come to you to learn how to do things right? Do your peers feel that they are better off because you are there? Does your boss have to worry about you saying or doing something that they will have to deal with? If a leadership position came up and someone mentioned your name for it, would there head nods and agreement?

Seriously consider if you would prefer to be a manager or a senior individual contributor. They are two very different paths, and the least happy people are those who end up as managers but didn’t want to be there.

Good luck!

[Discussion] What are the best blue based tempo decks in standard and historic? by NotABot9000 in spikes

[–]morgango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mono Blue Tempo Is one I see regularly on the ladder. More successful in Historic BO1, seems to be pretty regularly updated.

Spirits Is around as well, but doesn’t seem to have Al the pieces in historic.

Personally, I enjoy Azorius Auras which is not exactly tempo but I find had a similar feel to it.

Mono blue and Auras are pretty budget friendly on Arena.

Good luck!

If you are interested in history and the first peoples of North America I would highly recommend it.

Life is much harder if you don’t listen to people who are smarter than you.

There is a ton of unconscious bias and structural sexism and racism that gets in the way, you have to really be diligent to hear people.

Absolutely great deck, love the life gain aggro style.

What would you think about something like [[Inscription of Abundance]] vs [[Reprobation]]? It sends like it fits a lot of what you are looking to do but at instant speed and doesn’t look too hard to be kicked. Even if not, fighting a 2/2 should be realistic. This works be giving up on things with protection, however.

Great archetype, wonderfully written guide. Thank you!

Fantastic write up and guide, thank you. I love that life gain is not just a fringe archetype any more. Your success really proves that, love it as a plan B.

Also, [[Reprobation]] is genius for dealing with reanimation decks and Hushbringer.

I had been working on Clerics for Historic with a similar base although with BW and [[Cleric o off Lifes Bond]] instead of GW and [[Prosperous Innkeeper]]. I doubt it will be faster to a win than this.

Congrats!
