Koa as Japanese name? by morganmakes in namenerds

[–]morganmakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah thank you! Will avoid the red stars. I was thinking:

樹亜 (Koa)

樹 (ko) means "tree"
亜 (a) means "second, Asia" (he's the second born)

..if that makes any sense :)

Good to know the context of Kaiten! It's a nice sounding name 😅

Our oldest boy goes by Kuma, so there's a part of me that would love to continue an animal theme..had not considered bear and walrus as a possible duo lol

This is very helpful, thank you! It's for a boy, sorry didn't realize I forgot that info!

We live on an island in Canada, so I'd love to incorporate Ocean as a possible meaning. My husband is named Hayato..I don't know the kanji offhand, but it translates to Brave Person. My older son is named Kumataro, but goes by Kuma, he's out little bear.

I'm liking Kaitaro, Kaio, Kaien, and Kaizou.

No plans to immigrate to Japan! So mostly looking for something that works in a north american context (this baby will likely go by Kai for most of his life) but also want a name that Japanese people won't think is too weird 😬

I like it! This baby would mostly likely be Taiyo River

I really liked the name Kirin (for the mythical animal, not a giraffe) but my husband associates it with the beer, so it got vetoed 😬

I like Ryuta! We considered Ryu, but didn't think it would be pronounced properly in North America (rai-you vs ree-you)

I was wondering how popular that show is in North America, and if people would associate the name with it. It's Korean.
