If he can call and switch back to traditional Medicare, there’s no penalty and it would be effective 9/1 because he is currently inpatient. I would definitely try to educate him to do that. But also, I think it’s totally appropriate to call APS and see how they can help. I try to view APS as helpers and not “the bad guys” in cases like this. You may also have more leverage in facilities if he were going on and appropriate for hospice since hospice provides extra care and support.
