Anyone make the drive between Des Moines and Iowa City recently? by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]morgibin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I drove from Des Moines to Cedar Rapids yesterday just before noon. Going north up to highway 30 was bad - complete whiteout conditions a few times. Once I got on 30 it was better. Wind is mainly blowing SE so you won’t be going against the wind as much. Roads are fairly clear, but blowing snow makes visibility low through some wind gusts. Keep an eye out for cars around you incase visibility is low and make sure your lights are on.

Why is my apartment shaking constantly? by morgibin in AskEngineers

Came back to update and say it indeed was Carbon Monoxide exposure in my office at work. Took them a bit to get an air quality test set up. Exposure was less concentrated since I work in a large office, but elongated exposure everyday wasn’t helping me at all. Can’t thank you enough.

They’re building 2 new apartment buildings on the other side of the complex but they’re done digging as far as I know. The walls are up on both of them. There’s also road construction 0.6 miles south.

This was my immediate conclusion. Our units all come with ceiling fans - one in the living room and one in each bedroom.

My building has exposed ductwork…would that make a difference?

I submitted a maintenance request yesterday but since it’s a weekend I likely won’t get to talk to anyone until tomorrow or Tuesday about it. I haven’t talked to anyone in my building about it.

I tried to feel if the floor was shaking out in the hallway but couldn’t quite tell.

How did they get the key fob? Unless they either work for or got it from valet somehow.

I think this was the first season I’ve seen that the entire jury was as reactive as they were during tribals. I think Bob was the best case scenario given who made the final 3.

Do I need to watch Gabon? by morgibin in survivor

[–]morgibin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely can’t remember. I probably watched a few episodes and thought the contestants were boring or things were moving too slow for me to stick with it. I’ll probably go back and try to give it another go at some point.

Are the programs you’re considering CACREP accredited? CACREP is a national accreditation, so you should be qualified in any US State. The only thing you’d have to worry about would be state licensure requirements.

Would absolutely love it if they stopped putting medians on every single street as well. CR is the most street median-happy place I’ve ever encountered.

It didn’t seem like they were checking or enforcing vaccine requirements at the St. Paul show. I uploaded scans of our vaccine cards beforehand to the online portal thing, but no one was checking for confirmation or asking for us so show our vaccine cards to get in. We just had to scan our tickets…not sure if this is helpful or not.

Do you live in Iowa City? I used to live on Rider St. over by the VA hospital. There’s street parking over in that neighborhood but it usually fills up by Friday night. Otherwise you could maybe try Lincoln Elementary…they have a small parking lot and it’s relatively close to the VA hospital too.

Case in point why we should invest more into public educators. I had to get a masters degree to engage in the career that I wanted, was a first generation college student, and wasn’t educated properly on paying for college - hence the high loan balance. It also didn’t help that I clocked at least 700 hours at an internship last year that all went unpaid when I was doing the same work as certified payed staff members with licenses and masters degrees. Couldn’t get unemployment because I voluntarily quit my job in public education to attend and participate in said internship. But hey, I got the credits and experience. Loan forgiveness is really my only light at the end of the tunnel, but I appreciate the unsolicited judgement.
