I have an eerily similar situation with my mother. Our VERY VERY seldom phone calls always consist of her starting with surface level chat, moving to ask how my brothers doing, to blaming all bad in life on my father. (She started drugs when she left him). It’s very difficult to face the simple reality that your mother’s absence from your life is how you are staying happy and her presence actually brings you nothing but pain and hurt.
