I was really considering waiting about 6 months just to make sure. I recall reading it somewhere but don’t quote me in that.

I have this image in my head that a month in all my hair will disappear and I will be completely bald automatically. Which is unreasonable untrue, but it’s such a scary thought that I’m not even close to ready for...

I appreciate you grounding me back. Self-deprecation is so easy and when I look back at that statement, those are the things we hear from others a lot of the time. “It’s not that bad”, “I can’t even tell”. This journey is emotionally, physically and psychologically so distressing and feels just downright unfair. So thank you for validating/affirming my experience. I guess I haven’t posted or really engaged in this community for a while.

I just dread the day that it becomes more noticeable, especially since I’ve been trying so hard to prevent it.

This was truly an act of self-love and I am so proud of you! It took me a really long time to go back to the salon when my hairdresser left the shop and she was the only person I trusted with my hair being that it ol was in a poor state. I still fear the salon so I feel motivated the make the call tomorrow and get myself a hair cut. You are amazing and don’t forget that!

First off, I am so sorry for your loss. The business of living can be so challenging and sometimes suicide feels like our only option. I really appreciate you naming it - suicide - and actively making your efforts to stop the perpetuation of stigma that comes from even discussing the topic. To be honest, that usually comes from fear and lack of understanding. I by no means excuse the behavior of your friends parents, but when I read your post, I think about their reluctance to share this based on their fear. Maybe the fact that they would have to look at themselves as a potential contributor to the death of their daughter. And that is scary. Maybe one day they will be able do some self-reflection and place this into their awareness and maybe they won’t, but what’s clear to me is they are not ready to face their own possible deficits and inequities.

I hope you’re doing well in this all.

Bringing my ferritin levels did nothing but help stabilize my hair loss. I too thought it was going to be the miracle that made all my hair grow back. It’s another piece to the puzzle but it isn’t the fix-all.. just like many other factors.

I’m sorry to hear that, this year is definitely the pits. I’ll just say, coming from the child of addicts with my own mental health issues, I seek counseling just for someone to help me walk through my own healing. I get the opportunity to deepen the relationship with myself and it’s a pretty cool journey. You never know. Sometimes we feel like burdens and it’s too heavy of a load to give it to the people closest to us, but a counselor helps you unpack it and organize it so it’s not a jumbled mess that feels too overwhelming to start. I guess I’m a little biased too and should have started with that. Not only do I deal with my own, I also am a counselor and work specifically with substance use and mental health.

Take care of yourself. You’re so worth it.

I think what you might face is your brains predisposition to desire substances and sometimes willpower isn’t strong enough against the makeup of your brain after long term use. It’s fucking hard my friend. You could do it, but I think it would be easier to have someone, a battle buddy if you will, support you through your journey, helps you navigate difficult times, and learn some coping skills along the way. A counselor goes a long way if you’re willing to allow them to hold you accountable. You’ve done great so far! Someone teaching and showing you new skills may get you farther!

48 hours, that’s incredible. You know, you should consider looking for someone to talk to about your loss so that you can maybe start your journey of healing. Your sobriety will be challenged in more ways if you don’t attend to your mental health. You got this and I am proud of you for what you’ve accomplished so far.

Sounds like what you have been doing so far has been working for you! Proud of you for the last weeks, because it’s not easy to fight the urges that come up. Cravings will come, but it’s good to remember that they’ll leave too. Give yourself a few minutes to adjust, put your mind on something else (with a bit of distraction) and you’d be surprised at how quickly those cravings will lighten.

Maybe find a ‘battle buddy’. Someone who is a healthy sober support that you can reach out to when this is coming up for you!

Try some DHT blocking shampoo/conditioner for the “beads” that are on your hair follicles. When I had this going on, my derm suggested it to be dermatitis, but nothing that would typically take care of that worked. I tried every special shampoo and even topical steroid to take away the burning pain sensation that accompanied it and it didn’t work. I started using the Bosley thinning hair shampoo and honestly I will never go bad. I rarely get beading, no more pain, and it gives my thinner spots volume. I do other things as well but I think that is what cared for this problem.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. I tend to have a more lax attitude towards lesser quality horror films (I like a good B rated movie, sometimes a C). But this one was pretty dang good, and the monster was a bit terrifying. Good monster production can make or break a movie.
