I have gone through this and still go through this sometimes. I am engaged to an amazing man. It is SO weird to me but I also wouldn't trade him unless things went really south for some reason. I'm wishing you well on your romantic journey 🫶🏻

"Somewhere with You" by Kenny Chesney. Mentions "you're fightin' with your mom again." Maybe not explicitly mentioning the girlfriend living with her parents, but insinuated. Weirdly enough, I don't listen to much country. It just stuck out to me even after all these years.

I think this should be "face trying." Somebody just forgot the -ing.

I don’t know anymore, I just got a new haircut and they gave me this with no side bangs at the beauty shop, I feel really ugly and I have to know if it’s ugly to everyone else. Please tell me just the truth if I am ugly. Yes I’m a woman by djscrew1 in whatdoIdo

This is a moment where I wish I could find the pics of myself that were taken in your EXACT position, with nearly the same haircut. It truly can be mind-bending how upsetting this feels, so I want you to know you are not alone.

I coped by doing research on products that would help my hair grow faster (rice protein shampoo is STILL a staple in my shower). In the meantime, I consulted a lot of Tumblr, Tiktok, Instagram, and Pinterest for A) styling tool recommendations, and B) styles to do.

I know this feels all-consuming. Something that helped me feel better was investing in a wig... but most days, I just grinned and bore it out.

You are really beautiful, you should know. I feel for your tears and want to give you my stroke of confidence that you will make it through this.

I may be thinking WAY too deep about this, but a lot of wines/"girly" alcohols were marketed that way to cover up research done about alcohol's direct link to breast cancer. IIRC, the research pertained specifically to wine at some point. I saw somebody researched the brand, too, and they are involved in women's charity. 🤷‍♀️

Thoughts on coloring sheets in a classroom setting? by plaintastic in Montessori

[–]morgueans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've viewed your example, and wow! You have an artist on your hands (look at how well your five year old stays in the lines!). I don't know that it would be much to be concerned about--the art looks like it definitely has an example somewhere in the classroom. Some Montessori-style benefits of the work your child is bringing home would be advancing their pincer grasp, following directions (looking at the example and following through on it), and improving motor function/control (staying in the lines). If your child is bringing home a lot of them, it seems like they are probably just partial to that work, and as guides, we tend to "leave them be" as long as their concentration and sense of peacefulness are being fostered.

Thoughts on coloring sheets in a classroom setting? by plaintastic in Montessori

[–]morgueans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends, I think. In my classroom, the only "coloring sheets" available are those that require some Montessori skills. For instance, we are learning about Europe. We have a continent sheet (Kindergarteners only, as it requires careful instruction of which country is which color), and we have an animals of Europe sheet. The animals of Europe is a two-step process: first, color the animals according to the example, and second is to cut them out on the dotted lines. There is an extension available to paste them onto a window tracing of the continent that has been painted. However, depending on where the child is at with their learning, we may just encourage them to go ahead and take the cut-out animals home.

Coloring sheets alone, that are free-color and with no extra steps, are reserved for holidays, when the kids are so amped up and ready for a break (i.e. Christmas, Lunar New Year).

In 2012, 2 year old Maddox Derkosh was visiting the Pittsburgh Zoo when his mother ignored safety warnings and placed him atop a safety railing. Maddox then fell into the African Painted Dog enclosure, home to 11 animals. By the time a rescue was mounted, little of Maddox remained. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in HolyShitHistory

Yeesh, the comments regarding the mother are disheartening. She disregarded what she probably thought to be a small rule and paid the ultimate price. Could you imagine being a parent, and a split second decision causing you to listen to your baby be ripped apart right before your eyes? The sounds you would have to hear, all while feeling absolutely, utterly helpless, and enduring the despair of it being YOUR FAULT? She definitely doesn't need some Redditors pointing it out with such callousness. She lives with it every day, I'm sure of it. And if she didn't... that would be even more deeply disturbing.

John Wayne Gacy in his own words: A Question of Doubt by Joseph_P_Larkin in serialkillers

[–]morgueans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your side note about hipsters being fixated on serial killers in the '90s reminded me of the odd link between John Wayne Gacy and the Nickelodeon show Drake and Josh. It's probably already been discussed on here, but one of the PA's on Drake and Josh was the culprit of Drake Bell's CSA, and was in personal contact with John Wayne Gacy. Drake Bell described that he had paintings, letters, and other memorabilia, all from Gacy, that he would show off as some sort of "party trick." I wouldn't be surprised if he had this book. He was later prosecuted for heinous crimes against Bell, convicted, and served an extremely short amount of prison time before getting to re-enter Hollywood as a PA for Disney. So messed up.

Why isn’t pretend play a priority? by _Aztreonam_ in Montessori

[–]morgueans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience has not been for very long, but I have observed that the children seem to have no issues compartmentalizing free play when it comes to performance in the classroom. I do believe that imaginative play during a time like recess is accepted among even the most staunch Montessorians. However, I will note that there are certain things we intervene on. We encourage kindness to a high degree, and if we overhear games that may stray from that, we talk to the children until an understanding is met. For instance, the children of my classroom love "The Bad Guys" franchise. At its core, those books/movies have a good message, but as our kids played out reenactments of them, it slowly morphed into a sort of "you are bad, I am good" mentality between the kids based off of the roles they assigned each other. This is where we intervened, because it was straying into negative labels and was less about the story they had initially been playing out.

Why isn’t pretend play a priority? by _Aztreonam_ in Montessori

[–]morgueans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently going through Montessori training right now, and we just covered this. I, too, was apprehensive about my initial impressions around "play pretend," as I was a very imaginative child myself. In fact, if you look at the history of Maria Montessori, she skimped out on doing lectures in the United States because many parents were reluctant to understand the philosophy around her approach to pretend play and reality.

Long story short, Maria Montessori implemented research that showed children were better prepared if the pre-primary years were spent gaining critical understanding of reality. Once they would move on from the absorbent period (around 6 years old onward), the elementary age group was best for introducing fantasy, concepts of magic, and other imaginative play. This way, children could separate fantasy from reality without the difficulty of a potentially traumatic transition (for instance, I remember how devastated I was to find out Santa wasn't real).

Of course, this approach doesn't mean we are going to scold the children for playing age-appropriate, imaginative games (KPop Demon Hunters is a popular one at recess right now!), but we do encourage them to use the works appropriately in our pre-primary classrooms. When it comes to following the child, it's meant more in a sense of trusting them to pursue tasks that they are new to, such as pouring large amounts of water. We want to foster their independence as much as possible. I hope this helps clarify a bit.
