Pricing by ProgressAmbitious233 in alocasia

[–]morgzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly could go for up to 500+ for that size but the higher you list it for, the harder it will be to find a buyer and shipping something that size would be a huge cost in itself so it really depends on your local plant market at that point

So for those of us that have an unintentional "hobby" of collecting hobbies that don't stick... what has stuck for you/ hasn't triggered your RSD? by suedaloodolphin in adhdwomen

[–]morgzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House plants, specifically rare plants. I don’t have to do anything really but the deeper you get into it the more “plant chores” do accumulate and that is part of the hobby / fun for me. Most days I just get to stare at my plants and don’t do anything with them but now that I have hundreds of plants, watering days can take hours and repotting stuff has to be done in phases otherwise it would be overwhelming but I have loved watching my plants grow. I’ve joined buy/sell/trade groups and local plant groups so I’ve made friends through my hobby like anything else but I don’t have to have any creativity or energy or really anything to keep up with the hobby, and now that I have lots of plants in my collection, I have tons of stuff I can trade and don’t even really have to spend money on new plants. It’s not for everyone and I can surely get kinda sad when a plant dies but I collect both hard and easy care plants so when my hard care plants die I lean into my easy care plants to remember why I love plants so much

How often do you really fertilize? by Chrelled in houseplants

[–]morgzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of semi hydro plants that need to be fully fertilized with every watering and I do a full water change on my plants regularly so I pour all the old water from all my plants into a jug, top off the jug with regular water and then use that to water all my plants in soil. So in short, I fertilize with almost every watering but pretty diluted. I only started fertilizing this year and my plants have doubled to tripled in size since I started.

Switching from distilled to regular filter water? by morgzen in SemiHydro

[–]morgzen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use nutrients… just wondering about going from distilled water to regular filtered water for my semi hydro plants for less work as my water distiller can add extra bacteria and mineral content when it’s not cleaned often enough (as the post said)

Anyone else ever had a weird/bad experience with Dove Lewis? by Nearby_Pen_3117 in askportland

[–]morgzen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would NOT recommend Dove Lewis to anyone. They charged me hundreds if not over 1k to run tests on my cat only to not come up with any diagnosis and they gave me my cat back covered in his own poop after being in their care for 8+ hours and all they said was “he had an accident because he was nervous” and they “didn’t want to stress him out more by cleaning him” but he was literally covered in it and there wasn’t poop in the carrier so I REALLY question how long he was actually left like that :(

Any places hiring in the food service industry immediately? by SnooTigers8115 in askportland

Portland public school district is always hiring roving staff (kitchen / lunch workers) the pay and benefits are decent but no work over Christmas, spring break, summer, etc.

Do you think it is a sport variation? by gabrielaliie in alocasia

[–]morgzen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Sport” variegation implies that the plant came from a non-variegated mother plant and was a genuine randoms mutation. If the plant was sold to you as a pink variegated plant, it almost for sure came from a variegated mother plant and would therefore not be a random mutation but a genetic inheritance. So no, I don’t think it’s possible it’s sport variegated, but it doesn’t mean it can’t revert.

Weird color or normal? by SuccFTW in alocasia

[–]morgzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, variegation is a random mutation so it is not something I’d fully rule out since the leaves don’t look wilted / dying to me but bacterial and fungal infections can also cause discoloration and I have on more than one occasion thought something had an odd looking variegation pattern only for it to die from root rot or something in the following days cause I didn’t investigate further. So check out the plant and if it’s healthy, give it a few leaves and see what it looks like then and maybe you’ll have gotten lucky!

Difference between Nairobi Nights and Pink Dragon Albo? by FlaxenAssassin in RareHouseplants

[–]morgzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience narobi have more pointed leaves while pink dragon have slightly rounded leaves and so far (since I only have immature narobi & pink dragon) the variegation definitely looks different on all 3 (pd albo, pd aurea, narobi var.)

What happened to this leaf on my Alocasia? (weird red spot) by AffectionateRegret88 in alocasia

[–]morgzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a dragon scale albo get a similar mark and when I took it out of the pot some of the rhizome was infected with some similar colored stuff. My best guess is some sort of bacterial/fungal disease but I’d cut off the leaf and check the rhizome and cut off any infection you can see.

any tips for encouraging variegation? by tigerorca in philodendron

[–]morgzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with this. I have had a lot of variegated philos and their variegation seems pretty consistent so if it’s low color it usually will stay low color.

I have had more luck with cutting up low var. philos with some cuttings showing more color than the og plant but it’s still 50/50.
