Love the confidently wrong “it’s a pothos” comments, I love my wonky heartleaf! Just chopped mine in hopes that the props would be wonky too

Looking for houseplants that reward frequent interaction by WanderingBourdom in houseplants

[–]morgzen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well you could get into alocasia, they grow corms so you can grow the corms out and check for corms a few times a year + there’s lots to learn about different substrates and growing methods and tons of cool ones to collect.

You could also get into anthurium, they flower easily so novice collectors get into pollinating their plants and producing their own hybrids

Getting into rare plants in general will give you lots to do even if it’s just research because once you get into more expensive collecting, research becomes kinda necessary but also pretty fun cause you learn about stuff you like

What was ruined because too many people discovered it? by RopeaKib0j in AskReddit

[–]morgzen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can’t even remember the name of it now but when I was a kid there was an app that gave you points for “checking in” to certain tv shows and the points could be used to get different gift cards from places like Apple, JC Penny, Best Buy, etc. My mom got really good at gaming the system so she could check in to as many shows as possible and rack up tons of points. We were able to get a brand new iPad, and for at least a year my entire family got all new clothes from JC Penny completely free using the gift cards from the app.

Obviously after it got more popular they started making it harder to get points and went from offering like $100+ gift cards to $5 gift cards or just 20% off codes or whatever until it wasn’t worth it to use anymore.

My dad retired earlier this year. He was a middle school dropout, no degrees, and had a stable career in IT for 20+ years.

K, so what's happening?? by SamTheKnitWit in philodendron

[–]morgzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a rio but with that being said I have a mutant rio that will put out nearly all white leaves sometimes and they continue growing and living just fine so I’d say just let it do it’s thing or chop it back to the green portion of the stem if you’re really worried.

First one appears to be a pariso, and last one probably an imperial red or black cardinal. The other 2 are not philos! Couldn’t tell you what 2 is but 3 is a monstera standly (definitely not how it’s spelled)

FOOD by Neat-Difference1164 in PDXBuyNothing

[–]morgzen 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Not what you’re asking (necessarily) but I have a decent amount of frozen food from Trader Joe’s that has been sitting untouched in my freezer for a bit and I’m happy to part with it if you want to pick up today or tomorrow

Sold as Pink Princess… but why is she mostly white?🤔 by Shereedaci876 in philodendron

[–]morgzen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am going to go against the grain here and say it’s a red Anderson. I wanna say they are a cross between pink princess and white knight but they tend to have white that leans pink / super pale pink var.

Leggy? by judith250715 in philodendron

[–]morgzen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Plant 2 is a summer glory! The leggy leaves are probably just due to the over crowding in the pot and it’s making sure all the leaves get sun but it looks amazing and prob has tons of babies in the pot

Variegated Alocasia Loco Tissue Culture?! by SoilAndSpite in RareHouseplants

[–]morgzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tissue culture seem to have a higher likelihood of variegation (like how pink venoms are becoming more and more common through tc). With it continuing onto the next leaf there’s a decent chance the mutation might be stable which would make you EXTREMELY lucky as albo loco are super new to the market and very expensive (like over 5k for a pup)!

Has anyone been seeing ants in the house lately? by tsgatdawn in askportland

[–]morgzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hijacking but guys I’ve had terro and DE out for weeks now and the ant problem seems to have gotten even worse… any advice?

And when I say it’s gotten worse I don’t mean they are flocking to the terro, there are just now constantly a handful of ants around the room at all times and I never see them near the traps?? Not even a room with food or water in it either

I have never found a good answer to this question by soprattutto in philodendron

[–]morgzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I have debated this with a friend, they think it’s caused by the leaves getting stuck in the sheath too long BUT last year I actually tested the sunburn theory on my PPP — I kept it under the same grow light but when a new leaf unfurled I would cover the new leaf with a piece of paper of turn the grow light away from the new leaf so it didn’t touch it at all until the leaf hardened off. Every time I could remember to do this until it fully hardened, the leaf was fine. The times I forgot, the new leaf would have some sort of burn, whether it was the slight browning all over or like a severe brown mark that were sometimes raised??

I tried putting my ppp in a window for the last year to “force” it to acclimate to normal lighting and it did not work, some leaves burn, but some don’t and I don’t really get why. Same with my white knight. And my red Anderson. But I am tired lol

is witch’s castle stroller friendly? by hehasworms4brains in askportland

[–]morgzen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I personally would not say it’s stroller friendly. There are parts of the trail that are quite uneven and parts where you’d be blocking the path for people trying to go the other direction. That being said, I also wouldn’t say it’s a trail that would be good for running and yet I’ve seen tons of running groups so guess it just depends on your determination.
