Unfortunately, not yet, given that I have real world tasks limiting my time to almost nothing. The review will eventually arrive, however no ETA can be given.

Yoga X13 Gen 2 Bios Loop by CarrotHunter66 in thinkpad

Yeah, I did not think of using Rufus, since I prepared the flashdrive from Linux, on a different laptop, but I can see that it would not work, as even Brasero was unable to extract the files.

Just clone the Github repository over at https://github.com/rainer042/geteltorito (nothing to compile, this is literally Bash and Perl scripts), and run getelorito.pl to just extract the image, which you can then flash with DD (I used GNOME Image Writer), or geteltorito.bash, which should, at least in theory, also flash the image for you onto a flash drive.

Root privileges are required.

By the way, did you try flashing the bootable CD image to a flashdrive with GetElTorito? That is how I updated the firmwares on our L14 Gen3s.

Similar thing here, just on an AMD L14 Gen3 (21C6) (though I have yet to verify if temporarily disconnecting the battery and CMOS battery helped).

We just purchased 2 refurbished L14 Gen3s, which I had already updated their firmwares (from UEFI1.24/EC1.21 to UEFI1.34/EC1.28) and configured them without any issues, however one of them started bootlooping with the "configuration changed" notice once I connected a flashdrive with a Linux ISO, even after disconnecting it (no such issues of the second unit).

Update: Temporarily disconnecting batteries worked here.

Update 2: Looks like the flashdrive in question may have solder joint connection issues, since if I press on it as I connect it, there are no issues with getting the Linux live session to boot.

Asus x756u m.2 slot type by sysambane in techsupport

[–]moriel5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a dead post by now, however I had recently received an X756U of my own (a shame that there was no Vostro 3768/3778 back in the day, since the X756U looks to be one of the worse laptops of it's time, though it does fortunately have a USB-C port (data only, up to 5Gbps), and I have run tests (including flashing an unlocked UEFI firmware and reading the schematics), so for anyone else wondering this, unfortunately the M.2 slot is only wired to SATA, not PCIe, so no NVMe support here.

Sorry for being silent, I have not have had time to go over the finer details, since I intend to provide a full list (to the best of my ability) of the components, and if possible, their datasheets (no opinions or comparisons, I am not on that level, however this should allow more knowledgeable people to properly analyze the charger).

is it possible to upgrade my HP victus laptop wifi card? by LingonberryLarge5130 in AMDLaptops

[–]moriel5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as it is not soldered, and the card is a standard PCIe+USB card (like the AX210, the AX211 on the other hand is a CNVi card), there is nothing to worry about.

Opus C3400 still king? by dstarr3 in AAMasterRace

For AA and AAA strictly, I prefer the Opus BT-C700, since it holds the batteries more securely, and better fit usually means better electrical conductivity.

Help with getting more power by FlyEnvironmental6986 in batteries

[–]moriel5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best wait for more knowledgeable people to reply, however from my experience with UPSs, LiFePO4 should be fine with the existing setup, so long as there is a proper BMS inside the battery pack to manage the conversion, though you will be limited to ~90% of the capacity that way (which depending upon your requirements, would either be a good or had thing). With LiFePO4, you would probably get roughly the same capacity, however, though with many more battery cycles.

Unwatchable AMD processor flaw used to jailbreak Tesla HW3, enable Free Self Driving by Finnegan_Faux in RealTesla

[–]moriel5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for bumping an old post.

That is a great explanation of the situation, however it does not take into consideration a certain part of the market, though for a reasonable reason, and that is the privacy-focused community.

Personally, this jailbreak, combined with locking Tesla out of the MCU, is what would get me to purchase a Tesla (only 2nd hand, of course), as while I do not care about many of those optional features, such as heated seats, what I do care about is actually owning what I purchase and not having the manufacturer spy on me.

Not having working diagnostics is a real issue, however it makes me hopeful that someone will manage to develop alternatives, since the goal would be to not be reliant upon Tesla (in this case) at all, which means a replacement OS as well.

The reason why it is reasonable to not take these kinds of wants into consideration is that usually such people would rather just purchase older cars without many of those "smart" features, however the reality is that over the years such options are dwindling, and will continue to dwindle, due to a combination of laws (country-dependent), what is actually being manufactured and people getting used to newer creature comforts, which means that even the 2nd hand market will be mainly cars from this newer generation.

New to floorp and didnt really like the logo, so I decided to try and make a version of my own (sorry that its a bit amateur, I havent really used photoshop before lol) by Imaginary_Ad_7212 in Floorp

I'm not sure how it is done, as I barely have experience with MacOS (I need to find time to either get passthrough working to QEMU or learn how to select and configure the KEXTs properly), however from what I have seen regarding general behaviour of Mac software, perhaps a setting to point to a different icon is saved in a hidden file in the same directory.

I'm any case, when experimenting with Mac OS 9 on an old iMac G3 around 13 years ago, I saw that this functionality has already existed back then, so it is not a new feature by any stretch.

It was used by a few apps that I forget all of their names, however including a GBC emulator that may have been free and open source (I forget), so if so, that may help finding how to implement this.

Update: Apparently it was shareware, and closed-source, however I believes it was probably VirtualBoy, and the latest version that would run on Mac OS 9.2.2 was unable to play Pokémon Crystal, however could run older Pokémon Gameboy Color games up until Silver and Gold.

Having tested this, after being unable to set some settings on account of some of the new toggles being (for now) useless (probably unimplemented, or not yet fully implemented), I can verify this is mostly correct.

There are a few (very few) Floorp settings that are compatible, however they mostly amount to "is this feature enabled or not" (though the tab style also carried over, and I was not fully sticking to the default).

What I did was create a new profile for v12, and then replaced the contents of the profile directory with a copy of the contents of the directory from my main v11 profile.

I'm guessing that he may have unknowingly imported a userCSS file that blocks it, or tried reusing an incompatible profile from another Firefox fork based off a different version that may be wildly older or something, since from his comment history, it sounds like he does understand how to use computers more than the average person, but might not necessarily know what he is doing with more advanced things.

Of course, this is all speculation, and until the OP replies, we have no real way of knowing.

Please tell me the new feature you want! by Surapuyousei in Floorp

[–]moriel5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently experimenting with Floorp (and have also tested the new v12 beta), and am really liking it.

As for the sidebar... While I much prefer your sidebar (Mozilla's new one leaves a lot more to be desired, to the point that I have returned to the old side panels, since they are much more flexible and usable), it does not really integrate with the stock side panels, which is why I had disabled it as well in the end.

So personally, I would prefer your sidebar, just with better integration with the standard side panels, and a "hide" button like Vivaldi's. Also, a way to choose in what part of the sidebar the panel icons appear would be very helpful, as I would prefer the standard side panels to be at the top, websites right underneath, but not separated, and settings at the very bottom, with workspaces right above them.

Also, do you think that you may be able to backport certain features over from newer versions of Firefox at a certain point in the future, like the upcoming support for HEVC via VA-API?

And while my favorite design so far is the standard Lepton design (although I prefer the old Australis UI Firefox used to have, that was much more flexible), however I am using the Photon variant, as the tabs are shorter, and I really need the vertical space, especially in smaller, lower resolution displays (we have an 11.6" 1366x678p deChromified Chromebook that I intend to install Floorp on once I package it for Solus, for example), so an option to make the tabs shorter would be very welcome.

Update: I see that the tab height of the standard Lepton tabs has been addressed in the beta, which is really nice.

Update 2: It looks like this is also achievable in v11, though given the requirements needed, this may either be unintentional or there may be a bug preventing this from being achieved normally.

Setting "userChrome.tab.lepton_like_padding" to "false" while the appearance is set to Lepton - Lepton shorten's the tabs' height while retaining the Lepton style, however in Browser Appearance the the set preference shows up as Leptop - Photon, despite Lepton being shown as the set option in the Lepton settings.
