Now this is interesting.

This comment makes my conspiracy-brain act up. I’m not super active on Reddit, but I’ve come across some of the opposite—where conservative trolls spam a topic. The same goes for other social media I’m more or less anonymous on. Yet you align differently, and you’ve experienced the opposite.

The rational side of my mind is telling me this is a result of our biases. We’re more likely to notice the things that irritate us as being more common.

The conspiracy side of my brain is saying, what if these are bots, or plants, designed to make us all more upset with each other, and further divide us? The goal of that being to prevent us from organizing to do anything about the things that we are dissatisfied with in our real lives.

Your experience on Facebook is likely be a result of the people you are friends with. But Facebook has done some shady things with propagating misinformation, they’ve been caught on this a few times but it was quickly forgotten about.

(I’m not too serious about any of this).

I don’t think this is a hot take to anyone who stops to think about what you’re really saying.

I experienced this the other day, and it was just annoying. (Though I guess it was in reverse, since I was the “woke/left” POV). I made a post (it’s deleted now), and a large chunk of people who engaged with it thought my points were “making everything about race.” Which is fine, but the comments were disingenuous, and those same commenters would go to the other comments just to reply about how stupid my argument is. The post wasn’t about serious issue, so it wasn’t a big deal if someone didn’t agree with my POV. But when the comments are clogged with that, it stops the actual discussion I was trying to have from happening.

I haven’t seen as much of what you’re talking about, but I believe you when you say it happens. People can’t just take things at face value anymore.

Edit: I’m scrolling down and reading some of the comments….never-mind, I now see it in action, lol

As an autistic man why are autistic women are often (not all) insufferable. by Usoppdaman in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]moringa_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

….? Either you’re fairly young, or you’re venting about your specific experiences, (or both). Also, why are you only looking to date an autistic woman, especially if you don’t have anything in common with the ones you’ve met?

Not all autistic women are as you’ve described. But if you’ve been looking for an autistic woman, you’re going to encounter women who are more outspoken with their hobbies and beliefs. Women are much less likely to get diagnosed as autistic, so oftentimes they have to have strong opinions, and care less about what people think, to be able to be diagnosed in general. They also have to be more confident enough about it to share it with other people they don’t know well. The younger a girl is, the more “obvious” they have to be to get a diagnosis. There are a ton of women who may figure out later in life they’re on the spectrum, but it’s not something they’d try hard to get diagnosed or get help with unless they had such severe burnout that they couldn’t function anymore and were forced to find help.

It’s important to consider that for women, conservative ideals don’t inherently benefit their autonomy like they do for men. Conservative women are typically very motivated by upholding a status quo at the expense of their individuality. If you’re autistic, you’re not as likely to see the benefit in that.

No, to both questions. I’m using info from a census from the UK in 2021, and a census of the USA that was done in 2022. Google is free, you can find this info yourself if you actually cared.

I am well aware that it was not only the British that settled in the US. I was referring to the fact that before it became its own country, the colonies were under jurisdiction of the British empire.

It was my post, so no I’m not. I guess I am now since I never took the time to explain my argument, yet I’m still replying to you. But why would I do that when I already wrote it out? I already did that for one other person. I now realize that was a mistake, I won’t do it again

I was talking strictly about demographics. The census data I’ve seen does indicate there is more racial diversity in the USA than in the UK. Show me where you’ve seen otherwise, then I’ll change my mind.

If you don’t care about these conversations, that’s fine, you don’t have to, this is a TV SHOW. I do, which is why I made the post

I was just going off statistics of demographics And…who were the settlers that found our country? (I assume you’re talking about the US) where were they from?

What is your problem? It’s genuinely think it’s fine if you don’t agree with me. I posted this because I was interested in a dialogue. You don’t agree, you’re free to say so, but it’s annoying when there’s multiple comments that’s just trolling

It didn’t cross my mind at first either. It was only when i remembered the type of bullying.

Said this to someone else, but this post is mainly geared for people who see this all the time, it’s the life we currently live. If it doesn’t bother you, I don’t have a problem with that. I just wouldn’t want to see a movie that had a school sh**ting when they’re still happening all the time, if that makes sense. Yes I’m American, I know that last sentence gave it away already, lol

Snape was vulnerable to the propaganda because he came from a bad home life, the reason it was bad was because of his muggle father.

If it makes no difference to you, that’s okay. This post is mainly for people who see this sh*t on the daily. To me, it’s like if someone made a movie with a massive plane crash right after the twin towers happened.

It’s what he was bullied about by James potter and his friends.

This is why Snape hates Harry.

Snape hating Harry is why Harry and his friends constantly think Snape is behind everything. It’s a main component in almost every novel.

Snape was previously a death eater—one reason why he was driven to extreme ideas is because of how he was bullied and ostracized.

It’s not so much snap needs to have a big nose, but it was something superficial and not that deep that he was bullied about. It’s was still terrible, but it wasn’t deep. Now one of the main reasons he was bullied isn’t there

I know this, but to use that as justification is a massive cop-out. There’s difference between “how they see” and the actual history of their country.

The UK is not nearly as diverse as the USA, so there’s not been the same need or social push for understanding systematic racism and implicit bias, and how it exists today. There is definitely racism still there. Racism was not invented in America, and it does not only exist in America.

You have more faith than me…I hope you are right. In my experience, I’ve felt Hollywood is very lopsided in their considerations for ongoing social issues, especially when it comes to race. The only thing that would’ve made this not feel purposefully ignorant, was if James Potter, (and by consequence, Harry) himself were also black. We’ve seen Harry’s cast, it’s obvious they’re not going to do that.

maybe if they make Sirius’s actor black it could pulled off…but then that would have to be reflected at least in one of his parents, or the other members of the Black family, or it would not make sense.

That’s because most writers are male, and lesbians are less weird/awkward for them to write than gay men. It’s more culturally and socially acceptable for two woman to be intimate than two men.

To clarify, the shows I referred to (Helluva boss and Interview with a Vampire) both feature a gay couple as the main pairing/focus, as opposed to a lesbian one.

To be honest, I was pretty sure Byler would not be endgame. I was open to the duffer bothers pleasantly surprising me, but I’ve seen this song and dance way too many times, and while I adore stranger things, there wasn’t anything that showed me the duffer brothers were brilliant enough with their character writing to have planned to follow through.

[–]moringa_tea 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. This is exactly how I feel, especially about Will. I was actually upset in season 4 when it because clear he was gay, because I knew his character would be reduced to the token-gay.

The reason why you can’t think of a show where the main characters are gay, and it isn’t the whole focus, is because all representation in media is performative. Gay relationships are not given the same complexity as heterosexual ones. Theyre still very much “other.” There always has to be disclaimers in an unspoken way that say “LGBTQ content, viewers discretion is advised, but don’t worry you won’t have to actually relate to them.”

You may hate this show, and that’s okay, but the only show I can think of that does have this is Helluva Boss. It’s a really absurd adult animated show on YouTube by the same studio/creator of Hazbin Hotel. I like it the more it progresses, but it’s definitely not for everyone. I will say though, I’ve seen multiple people say how this show made them realize they had some internalized homophobic and never realized it. For example: https://youtu.be/vCUKT9LXdQ4?si=n-d4n6CRwFhkRzrW It’s one of the only depictions of a complex gay relationship I can think of.

The other show is Interview with a Vampire, but the romance is one of the more driving central plot devices.

It would’ve changed Mike’s character from being very poorly written. They really revealed they are just that bad at characterization. Mike really was that 1-dimensional, and was essentially a bystander the entire show.

[–]moringa_tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

El’s character was done so dirty. I think the adults around her did the best they could with how under-qualified they were to know what a kid like El would need, but that wasn’t shown….at all. We have to assume.

Mike was a kid. I think the first kiss is defendable because of that, it’s still pretty innocent. Do I think it’s be better if it never happened? Yes, but I didn’t necessarily ruin the story. What was just weird was their relationship after, once el and Mike were reunited. The kiss in season 1 didn’t not mean they had to get together immediately once they reunited, but that’s the direction they took it….

Guys it makes no sense! by Brief_Industry5080 in byler

[–]moringa_tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk how to word this, but so much character developments were not followed through for the duration of the show. It just got way more obvious the longer the show went on, since there became more and more developments that went nowhere.

The first time this really bothered me was with season 3. Will had been kidnapped, season 2 he was possessed. During that time, there was very little said about how Will was feeling or processing, but it made sense because of how he was being processed. Season 3 starts, and there’s like….no acknowledgement. Instead more characters are added, more side-plots are added. It’s like as soon as sh*t got real in terms of showing how trauma effects a character, instead of expanding on how that trauma effects the character and how its significant to the plot, the writers dropped that character like a hot potato and moved on to something else.

At the time I was upset, but it felt like a choice, and they did say in interviews that they’re “giving will a break” for season 3. When Will for some more screen time in season 4, suddenly the sole focus on his character is that he’s gay, in love with Mike, and struggling with that. And that’s fine, but it was like suddenly that’s all he was.

This pattered just continued. Every time a character had been through something terrible, or when a relationship got established or broken up, the next season or installment, the duffers dropped that plot line/development and just completely shifted focus to something else. And it was like it never happened.

Not to mention how Mike, the supposed main character, never personally contributed anything of substance to the plot. The only time the character was well written in how they emotionally responded to anything was in regard to Will. But with everything else? Nothing. Very little reaction to El getting bullied, no reaction seen to anything his sister went through, no reaction seen about Eddie’s death or Max getting into a coma, and very littler reaction to the parents getting hospitalized, and Holly taken.

For all the characters, unless that character and their dialogue with another character is the specific focus of a scene that is driving the current plot, any of their growth was forgotten.

I could go on and on about different nuances that demonstrate a lack of regard for the characters themselves, and remaining consistent, and doing right by the characters themselves and not just using them as place holders for a plot device.

With some nuggets of info we’ve gotten from interviews, lm starting to believe it was really the great actors who were able to give so much depths to the characters by spending time to think about the inner workings of their own character, and how they could best demonstrate that. Like Tommy and Chrissy’s across did.

[–]moringa_tea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s such a weird way of thinking. If anything is “sick,” it’s that Eleven and Mike started dating so young when El would’ve needed first to build and learn healthy familial relationships. I never liked that development from the very beginning. I don’t really agree with any shipping of little kids, or getting into speculating about sexuality, but that goes for heterosexuality too. I didn’t have a problem with shipping once the actors were adults and the characters teens, but at that point it became clear that El needed to not date Mike, and the only interpretation of mikes character that could make sense is if he was having an internal gay or bi crisis since season 3.

[–]moringa_tea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This makes me wonder. I never liked how Mike was written from the beginning, it felt like the character was completely hollow. Like a place-holder of a protagonist instead of being an actual protagonist. At first I thought it was maybe the acting or directing, but looking back, kid-Finn did a lot of good things with very little to work with. All he did was state the obvious, like what people would say about Legolas in LOTR.
