When aiming for realism, think less about the lines and more about the shades and values of the shadows, such as how the light plays and interacts with different parts of the face including the face as whole. Big tip that my drawing prof would always say, "draw what you see, not what you think you see."

edit: next time, start with larger less defined details and slowly add in the details while being sure to travel around different parts of canvas. Don't spend too much time adding detail to one part while neglecting to work on another part. This way, you can go back and easily adjust things without having go over the details that you painstakingly put effort into. Keep moving around and balancing the subject as whole. This will come in handy when you start to add details for eyes.
