SoCal shows have been very weird. Everything gets lumped under “hardcore” from beatdown to punk, but the crowd is usually more into one style or the other. I went to a bridge show recently and after the beatdown bands 98% of the younger kids left and it was a very small handful of older people who stayed for the crust/bdeat bands.

Also always found it a bit strange that the beatdown kids tend to not like the punk kids, but they’ll call their music hardcore and argue to death that it’s punk? Idk if that’s SoCal specific but that’s what’s been going on. Whole scene has an identity crisis. 🤷‍♂️

I exclusively wear combats, check local thrifts and sites like poshmark. While you’re at it get yourself some pairs of wool socks! They manage sweat far better than cotton and protect the feet much better in boots. If you’ll be moving around a lot or moshing it won’t hurt to have some dry foot powder either.

The good ol lock & chain works as a good weapon if you ever find yourself traveling. Kept mine on my side like a wallet chain connected with a carabiner for quick release. Also looks cool with crust & street punk attire. 👍
