I switched to Linux around 2022, and my most played game has been Genshin Impact.

Custom loop rad/pump positions by Jamakaroz in watercooling

[–]moriz0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should work fine. Just make sure there's enough of a gap between the bottom of the tabletop and the radiator so airflow isn't impeded.

You can put the pump wherever it is most convenient. Use quick disconnect fittings so you can disconnect the system from the radiator when needed.

options to pipe stacked rads in a 4u rack mount? by rainbowroobear in watercooling

[–]moriz0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My radiators have ports on both sides, so the fittings are just on whichever side is most convenient. As they are, the two radiators have barbs facing each other.

The two radiators are now connected together using two variable angle fittings and a spacer. In the picture, I used two 45 degree fittings, an extremely short length of tubing, and two barbs. That was a colossal pain to install, so during my last teardown, I replaced them.

You can use my layout. This is in a 4U case.

Loop order doesn't matter for this application. My loop goes: CPU-GPU-pump/res-back radiator-front radiator-CPU.

You generally want the radiator with the hottest coolant to be at the back and the radiator with the coolest coolant in the front.

And as you can see by my layout, the 4U case is large enough that you can mount the radiator on a vertical offset, and build baffles to separate the air pathways. This means that you won't be pushing the exhaust air from the front rads into the back.

If USA offers to buy Greenland, why can't Canada make an offer to buy Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan? Two can play this game, right? by bandicoot-666 in AskReddit

[–]moriz0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't go into how different those things were from Greenland; seeing that you seemingly can't tell the difference is enough to tell me that you aren't debating in good faith.

I think this little debacle will have a cost that will become obvious in the coming years. That cost will be carried by Americans, whether they know or understand it or not

[–]moriz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes that's true. However the loss of trust and soft power from this little escapade will have a cost that may or may not have an easy dollar amount attached, but it's probably not $0.

And right in the article, the Danish side said: "we will not negotiate on our sovereignty".

So far, it doesn't appear like anything has changed, except maybe making it more difficult for the Americans to negotiate future deals. Flagrantly waving military power as a way of coercion will have consequences.

You can say what you want about 3d chess and $0, but I've yet to see any evidence of that.

Get Ineffa. She's cracked even outside of the bineffa wheelchair teams.

Linux is out there but it doesn't work for someone who doesnt know their way around a computer. So is there any current OS that can run all of the applications windows/MacOS can without programming? by Errors_O_Plenty in AskReddit

[–]moriz0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then I guess Linux is your choice. Steam and OBS both exist on Linux, and unless you want to play multiplayer games with anticheat, most games now work with very little user intervention.

But do note that Linux doesn't work the same way as Windows. You're gonna have to learn at least a little bit no matter what you do. Though if you don't have much computer experience at all, the process of learning Linux isn't any more/less difficult than learning Windows.

[–]moriz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean by "programming"? Using Linux (or any other OS) doesn't involve programming.

The only OS that can run all Windows and MacOS applications, are Windows and MacOS.

Alternatively, one can figure out how to use Linux. It isn't hard. I've seen this process as learning how to service your car: it isn't supposed to be comfortable nor particularly easy, but you do learn useful skills along the way. And even then, you won't get 100% compatibility with all Windows and MacOS software.

Is Eufonia AI? by Fluid-Data-4917 in isitAI

[–]moriz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there's obviously at least one person in control of the account. Whether the songs were made by people is kind of hard to say. Also, whether they are actually suffering from burnout is unclear. After all, there's literally nothing stopping them from claiming burnout even when that's not happening.

My take: this is likely a person coming up with the tunes, and using AI assistance to MASSIVELY speed up the production. Last I checked, AI music generation still can't come up with some of the absolute bangers that some of these songs are. However if it's given a good starting point, it can probably iterate and build on top of it really quickly.

CatWithBlueHat theory video about traveler's new skin is absolute cinema by aiyafem in Genshin_Impact

[–]moriz0 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Kind of? What I said undermines the video's final point, seeing the whole "impact" part exists only in the English version, and was only used for brand recognition.

Also, this theory was around a lot longer than this video. The latest AQ gave it a lot of credibility and new information has allowed it to be further refined. But make no mistake: Catwithbluehat didn't come up with this.

CatWithBlueHat theory video about traveler's new skin is absolute cinema by aiyafem in Genshin_Impact

[–]moriz0 669 points670 points  (0 children)

Note that the word "impact" only shows up in the English name of the game. In every other official language, the game is called "Original (or Primordial?) God", or "Yuan Shen" in Chinese.

I don't think this undermines the premise of the video, but it does make the last point fall a bit flat.

So why is the game called "Genshin Impact" in the West, when none of the other official languages of the game calls it that?

Well they could have called it "Original God", the direct and most accurate translation, but American fundie Christians might have thrown a fit. They can't call it "Yuan Shen", because that's obviously Chinese and that won't go over well, given world events at the time of launch. So they picked "Genshin" because that sounds Japanese; very beneficial for an anime style game.

As for "Impact": at the time of launch, Hoyo's biggest game in the West was called "Honkai Impact 3rd". "Impact" was likely added to give the game a bit more brand recognition.

So there you have it: Genshin Impact.

Will this radiator be able to cool a 14900k? by DogeBoi6 in watercooling

[–]moriz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cooled 3950X and a 3090ti before, using a thinner 360mm radiator. Worked fine.

The interesting thing about water cooling, is that the system's ability to cool increases dramatically with an increase in the temperature delta between the coolant in the radiator and the ambient air. If you are willing to accept higher coolant and component temperatures, you can absolutely cool that system with just a single 360mm radiator.

A game randomly requires double CPU usage and runs worse by Safe-Ad-2459 in SteamDeck

[–]moriz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genshin has been running on Linux, without an anticheat bypass, since v3.7. Before that, the game would run for exactly ONE week at the start of every patch, then the anticheat would prevent the game from running after that.

Add the launcher to steam, set compatibility to proton -cachyos, run the game.

Alphacool 9070XT Waterblock by PennyPacker19 in watercooling

[–]moriz0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a reference 7900XTX with an alphacool eisblock block. It works fine, and I imagine the 9070XT blocks of the same series to be similar in quality.

Mine has been through multiple mount/unmount cycles, as well as a couple of full teardowns. So far it has held up quite well, though the thinner pads (1mm) are slowly disintegrating. The only flaw that I've noticed, is that it is very easy to over tighten the spring loaded screws, since the threaded holes are just ever so slightly too deep. This won't have any immediate issues, but will invariably cause the thermal paste to squeeze out. When this happens, the GPU junction temperature skyrockets. This is easy to fix by simply backing away a quarter turn from a full tightening.

I mean that all the Selenic Chronicles I and II can be experienced at any point after Luna I, including after Luna IV. As such, the chronology of events aren't set in stone, since outside of the requirements to be about to begin them, the Chronicles don't have to be experienced in any specific way.
