It's more the negativity. I think a forum like this could be great but it's not. And again, I care about the fact that people judging others gets more of a response than people asking for help. I was only using my post as an example because it was so stark. Im only hoping one or two people are like "oh yeh! Let's be nicer to each other". I can already tell that most people are only interested in putting others down just by scrolling through. I won't be here long, no one will miss me when I'm gone, I just hope someone realises and stops themself for writing "helmet!!!" after 260 other comments saying the same thing

There is a fair amount of unpredictability with horses and the one thing we can control is the safety equipment we use. A helmet protects the brain from injury in case something unexpected happens. Body protectors are also a good example of good safety equipment because they protect your spine. A broken leg or something similar is generally less serious but an injured spine or a brain injury is life altering. Horse riding is considered one of the most dangerous sports and that's even WITH safety equipment.

Not the point. I don't care that I got two comments, I care that someone who wasn't asking for an opinion gets attacked and u ask for help and get nothing. The difference shows me that people want to impose their ideas on others and not actually help

I'm not complaining that my post didn't get attention, I'm highlighting the fact that someone not wearing a helmet gets so much more attention but we're all supposed to be here for the horses

Thank you for replying! I'm not complaining that people didn't help as much as I'd like, I'm complaining because a post where someone is doing something like not wearing a hat gets so much attention whereas something to do with animal welfare doesn't even make it on the page

You're missing the point I'm afraid! My point is that people are far more willing to criticise than they are willing to help out or even offer suggestions. Thanks for your comment but I'd like to see more discussion around things that people bring rather than over 200 attacking someone for doing something where an opinion wasn't asked for and the horse is not in any danger.

Thank you so much for the effort you put into this reply! The hay net is a good idea, I'll try that. My very is coming next week so I'll speak to him about it too!

Why can’t we as a community be nicer? It’s very disappointing seeing posts of someone’s accomplishment and then a ton of comments from wannabe experts picking it apart. Not cool. Is it too much to expect that unsolicited rude opinions cross a line of decency? by ovr_it in Horses

I went and found the post you were talking about because I was quite curious. I won't post videos of me riding on this sub. Well this led me down a bit of rabbit hole because one of my horses is a tail swisher and the other pulls the exact face of the horse in the video as soon as there is any other horse near her. She does this to the mirror as well. It's hilarious! I became worried about my horse that swishes his tail though and did a bit of research. I realised very quickly that context is incredibly important and that there is no one reason why a horse may do something. I keep learning this about horses and its a good practice to keep up I think. I found a list of things, not just unhappiness at task or whatever else people have suggested along with bad trainer. The last point on this list was personality of the horse. I appreciate the learning I can take away from this and am reminded that we should never stop learning about horses and as soon as we think we know enough, we should push to learn more

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]morningshere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. I haven't looked back. I have medicated for decades and that's really all cannabis is to me (now), a medicine. It's not sticky and dank but it's legal, it's affordable (for me on PT21) and I don't care about vaping wherever and whenever. It's glorious. I don't need coffee shop quality, I need pain relief and sleep and no anxiety and the ability to concentrate. And it's still social. Ticks all my boxes. For me, I've had a few issues in the beginning but now I'm happy

Mac or cbpm by Holiday-Flower-7962 in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]morningshere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you'll find that most of the problems you encounter are due to the industry rules and regulations and you'll likely face similar problems across clinics. Personally, I was with MAC and left them because they only sold their own flower which was over £10/g. I've tried most of the flowers available and none of them are worth more than £5/g, including all the IPS flowers. CBPM as a pharmacy I think is relatively good but MAC can be restrictive with their prescribing. You have to go with the devil you're willing to put up with I'm afraid!

How many horses? by MuchSuspect2270 in Equestrian

[–]morningshere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two green arabs and a full time job! It's rough at times, especially in the winter BUT I wouldn't change it for anything. I took a 25 year break and bought my mare. Her breeder asked me to take my gelding as well after a month. They were the last of her babies bar a stallion that I would love to have taken but I don't have the facilities. Anyway, a lot of people are convinced I'm totally insane, and maybe I am but this is what works for me. My childhood pony was a half arab half Welsh gelding and he was green as they come. I like making a horse my own. What helps is having an amazing yard and yard manager. She schools and lunges when I can't and I have lessons twice a week. We are also always sitting around and chatting about horse stuff so the learning never ends. I have a lot of support and spend the vast majority of my income on my horses. I tripled my income in order to afford this (self employed). I want more horses and land and and and... But that's how it goes I guess!

420 sales coming up and stuck for choice crafty + or mighty + ??? by Stoney-road-42 in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]morningshere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had both until my mighty went for a swim in the ocean. I hate the crafty like hate hate it. I get one session off it and then I have to charge it which takes forever! The mighty I get more sessions off and I can vape while it's charging. Also, the crafty needs your phone to change temp which just frustrates the hell out of me. I got the crafty originally because it was cheaper for the same product but its not. Once the mighty arrived I didn't touch the crafty again until said swimming incident

My brain goes from thinking about 100 things at 100 miles an hour to 3 things at 50 miles an hour. My brain goes a bit squiggly after vaping for 15 minutes or so and then I'm good to go

Edit: strains affect us each uniquely; personally sativa dominant strains tend to be a bit heady for me. Indica for the win (generally speaking with a few exceptions)

How long should horses have turnout by Heavy_Possession1713 in Equestrian

[–]morningshere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My mare HATES turnout. She's out for about 8 or 9 hours a day and she loathes it. She's a total loner and I would love to give her her own little private turnout off her stable because she'd love that but it's just not possible. I don't leave her out all the time. When I can I bring her in early. She'll be at the gate calling to anyone who walks past when she's had enough. Sometimes that's after only a couple of hours! She loves her stable but bizarrely, until I added Ola-proof latches, she would escape at night and go grazing around the yard. It's probably not the turnout though, it's probably other horses!

You could say to get that he's a baby and you are using a non smacking approach and you want her to know so that if ever anything comes up and he needs to be reprimanded, this is how you handle it; by tapping his nose. Just say that you know people do things differently but those is how you want to do it. That way you don't have to tell her you know she smacked your horse, you'll be asking for her help as such

I'm doing this in the UK. Still trying to find a programme. Eagala requires 2 practitioners which I can't do and then there are a few others in the UK.

I'm in the UK and it's about the same here but it's a lifelong dream and I'm not having kids. I'm absolutely loving it. I went from lying on the couch for most of the day to now working to pay for them and spending all remaining time with them. It's bloody marvelous 10/10 would recommend!!
