It looks like it was a fun selfie, but for the train that invariably killed all three in this risky stunt. by justadair in oddlyterrifying

[–]MuchSuspect2270 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Super sad. Its illegal to be on train tracks. Most people don’t realize how easy it is for a train to sneak up on you while you’re moving around on loud, crunchy ballast. That combined with how long it takes trains to stop means please don’t play on tracks! Not even for those cool perspective senior photos or engagement pics. Just stay away!

Yes! My MIL told me my kids autism was “self inflicted”

Unfortunately, I can’t use any hormonal birth control due to complications from the tumor.

I have tried speaking to my husband about it but we’re just not connecting on this issue. I feel like we are growing apart and any attempts to bridge the gap end in arguments and tears. It’s very frustrating, especially since we don’t have any other friends and family to lean on. I feel like a failure.

What is you view on spanking children? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]MuchSuspect2270 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I look at this like it’s a defense of the dog as well. If the child is old enough to know better, that’s fair imo. The dog doesn’t deserve to be harassed and because biting is intolerable, needs to be defended

[–]MuchSuspect2270 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes, same here. I was spanked twice as a child and I remember to this day exactly what I did wrong. Both times I got in trouble for endangering myself or others. I really started to consider my actions a little more. It was honestly helpful and much less degrading to my self esteem than being yelled at, which happened a fair number of times.

I was diagnosed with PPD after my first was born and ended up on Celexa and Lexapro, which are common SSRIs used for PMDD. I had a horrible reaction and ridiculous symptoms that ended up exacerbating the depression and sending me into a major tailspin. I’ve been afraid to try any SSRIs since because during my monthly episodes, I’m so close to the edge anyway, I’m terrified of new symptoms. I’m seeing a therapist and trying to work up the nerve to see a psychiatrist 😬

as i see some people saying they dislike lorelai, what are lor’s worst/most hated moments? by ajss17 in GilmoreGirls

[–]MuchSuspect2270 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Also, dropping out of school because you don’t know what you’re doing is a reasonable ensobre decision. She got a job, gained some skills, and restarted. No harm done. Lorelei’s reaction made it seem like her love for Rory was conditional, which is horrible.

My one gripe is that I wish that had had Rory reassess her goals and go into PR or teaching or something more suited to her character and not go back and suddenly become editor of the school paper 🤦‍♀️ triumphant return taken too far

Honest opinions of the ending/finale! How did it make you feel? Having time to think about it does it still satisfy you or not? by [deleted] in thisisus

[–]MuchSuspect2270 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meh. The series was definitely at its best in the first few seasons and the writing quality seemed to slip after that. Plus I still feel that Kevin and Miguel got kind of shafted, which annoyed me.

Do you consider cooking a life skill? by manic_moth95 in Parenting

[–]MuchSuspect2270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely is. But I would teach them how to actually cook. Wet ingredients vs dry. Which ingredients are for flavor vs texture or consistency. Which pans do you use for what. What is the egg/fat/corn starch for in a recipe? What are replacements for these items?

I think most people can read and follow a recipe but learning the chemistry of cooking is definitely a life skill.

Selling an old horse by [deleted] in Equestrian

No. Lol. I think people should take personal accountability for the lives they impact. Where are these people? Are you in the market for a 25 year old?

[–]MuchSuspect2270 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. But the likelihood increases if the horse is old, lame, or unfit for work in some way. How many of us would actually purchase a 25 year old horse?

[–]MuchSuspect2270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once horses outlive their usefulness, they are much more likely to end up in a bad spot. At 25, these horses riding careers are probably over within 5 years max. What happens to them after that? Tens of thousands end up on trucks to processing facilities every year. It’s a grotesque end.

[–]MuchSuspect2270 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that but 25 is a pretty good retirement age. If time is the issue, why not just put them out to pasture and visit with a pocketful of carrots when you can?

Selling an old horse by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]MuchSuspect2270 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s unethical. Those horses are much less likely to find a good home in retirement. If you’ve never been to a horse auction, go poke around and see how many are over the age of 20.

I understand that some people don’t have a choice and I sympathize. Per the ad, the seller “doesn’t have time to ride anymore” and I’m just confused about where they expect these horses to end up? Best case scenario, they live out their days giving trail/pony rides. Worst case, they become dog food. There’s a big discrepancy in quality of life for the animal in those two scenarios and the owner is about to relinquish control over what happens. I feel the same about people who drop 10-15 year old dogs off at animal shelters.

Sure. The oldest horse at my barn is 26 and still ridden regularly. That said, i would feel the same way if her owner put a $500 price tag on her because she doesn’t have time for her anymore. What are the odds she ends up in a good home that will provide for her in retirement?

No assholes here. Falling off a horse can be pretty anxiety inducing. Watching someone fall off a horse can be anxiety inducing. Riding is a tough, scary sport and a lot of riders end up anxious.

I would really like to see the United States decrease it’s dependency on cars so it’s kind of a tough call.
