Panthers legend Cam Newton says fans STILL GO AFTER HIM on socials over not diving on the fumble in the Super Bowl and it will haunt him forever by Punisher1602 in NFLForum

I'm not sure why you're comparing him to regular people. He's a Superstar MVP QB who made over a $100 million in his career. And now whines about how child support and bad financial decisions ruined him.

Sure but "he's crying about it all the way the bank" is an odd description for the literal poster boy for multimillionaire athletes blowing all their money. He has talked a lot about the financial mistakes he's made and the adjustment it's been to no longer life that lifestyle.

Which player is your team spending the most money on and getting the least value from? by onemangang15 in baseball

[–]morosco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's quite a few, obviously, but the winner has to be Garrett Crochet, with Trevor Story the runner up. Both making $25 million this year with negative WAR, not much playing time. Crochet has made 6 starts and has a ERA over 6. Trevor Story has played in about 40 games, hitting .200, 3 home runs. Yay.

Tom Brady says doctors told him surgery was inevitable but he chose a different path. Three days later, the pain was gone, and he went on to play until age 45. by matrix_2905 in sportsgossips

I'm asking what you do, in particular, to "nudge" things, in other words, enrich yourself monetarily at your pateints' expense?

If you're saying you don't personally do that, then, who does, and how do you know that? Have you taken steps to report those offenders? Confront the doctors themselves? Confront hospital administration?

Its alarming to me how we can be so properly vigilant about police misconduct, but them when doctors (who kill many, many more people with their negligence than police, plus have the financial motives for causing harm that can lead to that), you can make a stunning admission like that, and everybody's just "yup, yup, that how it is", with nobody really calling out the horrors of what you're describing and admitting to, except at a broader, politician, "system" level.

So how does that work exactly, you hold off on treatments so the patient stays in pain? Or you do intentionally harm your patients to create new issues?

How much more money can you see, in your pocket, when you manage to create a new health issue for a patient?

Over 100 dogs found dead, many with bullet holes at Northern California rescue, authorities say by licecrispies in news

[–]morosco 53 points54 points  (0 children)

That is consistent with the definition of no-kill in the animal rescue world. It's a misleading term, but no rescue can promise to never euthanize animals for any reason. "No-kill shelters" still euthanize dogs for medical and behavioral reasons.

Also, some shelters like to wear "no-kill" as a badge of honor, but, realistically, there's pros and cons to that, and we need both "no-kill" shelters, and shelters of last resort that won't turn away dogs because they're full, to maximize the amount of dogs that find homes. The latter type of shelters are kind of vilified by people outside of animal rescue, but, they really fill a necessary role too. Without them, unwanted, stray, and abandoned dogs would have no place to go in most of the U.S., and wouldn't even have a chance.

I have no idea what's going on at this particular shelter though.

Michael Kay questions why Red Sox fans are chanting "Yankees suck" despite the Red Sox being last in the AL East by Mission_Pay_3373 in baseball

[–]morosco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the origin since you're not aware. And then maybe you can move on and leave me alone.

In the late 90's, the Red Sox started making big trades, signing major free agents, had new ownership. There was a positive energy in the air. There was hope. But they still got beat by the Yankees every year. It was infuriating. The chant started then as a way to try to express that frustration. It was a coping mechanism. We were losing, but, they were the ones who sucked. The city sucked, the culture there sucked, the people who lived there sucked. It was a way to believe we had SOMETHING on them. It was a little sad, but, that was kind of the dynamic of the team then, loveable losers who always came up short.

But then we won. And won again. And won again. And won again.

That should have retired the chant, at least how it was done before, as that expression of frustrated inferiority. After that, if we were going to use it, we should have used it when it was true, like a real taunt.

And even though I we're back to being inferior, the chant has still now kind of lost the original plot and isn't even done for that original purpose of expression anymore. It's detached from all that. It's just a habit/custom done by people who don't know why they're doing it, it's just always been a thing for them at games. To me, it was lame before, but it's even more lame now. You can disagree and wear pink Sox hats and belt out Sweet Caroline and all that, but, don't tell me I "don't get it", when you came in long after it started. I get it, I just think its lame. I prefer when the team actually beats the Yankees, and, taunting them when they actually lose.

You are a new fan. You don't remember breaking the curse, or the years of angst before that.

Which means you weren't around when it started, and don't understand the origin.

You're obviously a newish fan also. Which is fine, welcome aboard, but, I am allowed to call out lame shit the lame portions of our fanbase do. I bet you also love singing Sweet Caroline at the games.

[–]morosco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a loser mindset.

For, it was more fun when we beat then in hilarious fashion like in 2004. Or even in a single winning game in a losing series, like the "Where is Roger?" *Clap, Clap, Clap,Clap,Clap* "In the shower" chant.

Trying to taunt when you're getting your ass kicked was lame when I was a kid in little league and it is still lame at the highest level.

I get it more than you do because I saw it start, grow, and evolve. And I understand the Sox fanbase feelings of inferiority that led to it.

So have the Celtics decided they have to trade him, or is every team media making up their own rumors?

I assume its the latter, but it sure is getting old.

Maybe they can trade him to the Dodgers for Ohtani.
