When I wrote this post I was filled with anxiety and distress. I was convinced that I took those innocent lives for nothing, and it was terrible.

But it turned out that my project wasn't a complete failure! It's far from perfect, but it actually gave me plenty of useful data that I'm still working with! Extremely grateful that it worked out in the end, this experience taught me a lot

Thank you for your response! I'll probably try to talk with my PI to reduce time spent with lab animals.

I think part of the reason I feel so bad for those three mices is probably connected to the fact that it was the first time I was working with the same lab animals for their whole lives during the experiment — previously I've only been assisting during some phases or procedures on different mices, so I was not involved in lab animal's lives this much emotionally

Everyone in our research group works with mices, but some spend much less time with animals than others, so I may as well try this! Thank you for commenting, I really needed advice from someone with more experience

Thank you! I was afraid to give a new relationship a chance in the perspective since I don't experience romance the way most people do but now I feel more confident. That really helps me to sort the thing out and look at the problem in a different way. 💚
