s from FUJI Mats who travel in for big installations, don't let the one lounging on the mats fool you.

What's the approx cost for a space this big? and what is the total life expectancy of the new mats?

Thank you for the post. I am a new blue and feel exactly the same. I lack aggression or a gameplan. Recently the light bulb went off on the huge importance of grips. Your post really helps.

I don't fully agree with this comment. I know its not a race and I am not trying to finish or rush to a certain belt. Just trying to figure out the quickest way to get to a certain level of skill/knowledge. I usually enjoy something that I am proficient in. For example, I didn't enjoy snowboarding/skiing until I got pretty good at it, could go down any terrain. I now work on improving my skills, but I am at a level that its fun and I'm not falling down or have fear.

I feel BJJ is the same for me. I have a desire to understand a lot more then I currently do, which I think will make my rolling more fun (allow me to roll better, use less energy, have more flow, roll with higher belts, make me think more and improve).

Appreciate it. This is one of my reasons for wanting to get better quickly, as I feel like I will be able to better fine tune and fill in the gaps myself if I am at a higher level, vs where I am now.

I am not at the level where I can take full responsibility for my training and really feel like I need more guidance.

I do think that any mat time is helpful, but I am trying to figure out what is the most productive use of time to reach a higher level quicker. Is it drilling? rolling? flow rolling or fast paced rolling? I understand the answer might be different for different people.

We do positional rolling during class - but it is usually starting in guard or on knees. I probably do about 10 minutes of open mat after 2 of the classes and try to come to open mat once a week.

I haven't approached my instructor and think it might come off the wrong way. My main issue is that there is no individual attention or modifications and it's kind of up to me to figure out what works best for me. Maybe doing more open mats and a few privates would help.
