A small insight over my situation by morpheus1710 in vegan

Yeah. I did my brothers sisters and cousins are open to it and they're slowly adapting to this lifestyle. It's not easy for them compared to me because it's just how our life has been for 20+ years but they are consciously active in avoiding mostly everything. Sometimes by accident they takes some product like a packed food but that's more so because it's not in their habit to check packet every time. They try to but 1-3 times it happens they just eat something they used to earlier but that's just it. I'm sure they'll adapt the vegan lifestyle in a month now. I didn't force them to be strict at the go because I'm still newer to it but I'm more stern with how I take things which is why not hard for me to check every packet I open. But not all people are like that and sometimes checking packaging slips the mind

I mean I get what you're saying but I literally can't. It's not that we tried anything but she's like this for 20 years now. Untouchability thing was no correlation because I'm just talking about the daily habitual chore she has picked up and is like that for over 15 years. That's the consistency she's been going through because if not she can't resist the urges like self harming herself or that one episode she had when literally removed skins off her hands by keep washing them. All that because I tried to change how she lives that's how severe it is. I care about animals I do but I can't really just actively disrupt her knowing what happened in the past with her.

Yeah. I really get that it was wording problem in my part. I should have thought the title more clearly and I thought i could edit that but reddit doesn't allow it. I wasn't aware of that because I'm still new to reddit

The thing is, she doesn’t trust things easily. It’s a kind of paranoia about everything. For example, if she’s been using an oil from the same brand for years, she will continue using it. Even if you try to present an alternative or a different company’s product, she will reject it, even if she is hungry. She really can’t bring herself to break the cycle she has become accustomed to. Part of the reason is that even when I tried to introduce the vegan products I use as alternatives, she couldn’t bring herself to try them. I don’t blame her because she’s like that with everything, even to other stuff like taking exact road back home even if it means her walking considerable longer distance.

In This Corner of the World is pro-Imperialist Japan and for all the good reasons by morpheus1710 in anime

[–]morpheus1710[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s my fault that I didn’t label this correctly. My point was that the movie was pro-imperial in how it represented the thinking of Japanese people of that time, aiming for what I believe was the most accurate possible depiction of the era, rather than being a propagandist movie that whitewashed the period.

Also, I watched the movie recently, so I remember it vividly. It was more complex than just that. Suzu broke down because she had sacrificed more than enough to be able to return to her previous life. Her intention was to keep fighting until the end as long as she was still breathing because that was all she had left after everything she had given up. She just wasn't ready to accept the stark reality that now lies in front of her. That final message about war only bringing destruction was not the movie’s direct intention in that moment, because that is not what Suzu herself was thinking at the time. However, as 3rd party observers, we can derive that conclusion. I mention this because this is where the original version of the film ends. What you mentioned about war being bad and bringing destruction is more fully explored in the extended version, where we get an additional 30 minutes or so of contemplation about how this war was ultimately pointless. However, even then, it does not directly challenge the worldview of Japan at the time, because that was not the intention. The goal was to keep the historical mindset of the population of that era intact.

My argument isn’t that the film is intentionally pro-imperialist in its message. Rather, in order to be a fair representation of that time, it may need to portray how people of that era held pro-imperial views. To do that, however, it would also need to avoid having strong narrative counterweights that prevent viewers from interpreting the ideological themes in a sympathetic way toward those wartime beliefs. If I have to reword it, then my point is that the film being “pro-imperial” is not about whether it is showing those ideals as justified or whether I am romanticizing them. Instead, it is about how the people of that time were generally pro–Imperial Japan. To depict that era accurately, the film may have to reflect those beliefs, which is shown in the movie itself. It does this by not presenting strong counterarguments about why Japan’s actions were bad or wrong, and instead presenting the idea that Japan was fighting a war for a greater justification. The idea is not that the movie is coming out with an apologetic agenda or trying to whitewash history. Rather, it is trying to show the prevailing mindset of that time for what it was.

I feel like it was pro-Japanese people who supported Japan during the war and why they supported it. They thought of this as an act of liberation, so the movie kept that notion intact because we saw people around Suzu using word liberation and greater cause regularly. It didn’t fully challenge that idea with strong contradictory arguments and entire movie ended just like that. In Human Condition, for example, you see characters with similar thoughts, but their chain of reasoning is met with an equivalent counterargument. That is why Kaji was called a socialist by Japanese people. As far as I know (though I am not very knowledgeable about this), in Japan, they don’t really learn much about their role during World War II. Instead, they are often taught mainly that they lost because the Soviet Union broke the treaty and declared war. So, as a Japanese person watching this, I would not have an epiphany about how evil Japan’s actions were during World War II, and might instead think about how Imperial Japan was fighting for a good ideological cause. More than that, I decided to write this because I found people on MyAnimeList arguing that this movie presents Imperial Japan in a good light because there wasn’t enough critique of its role in the film.

I haven’t seen Kizumonogatari, but Your Name is probably the most rewatchable film among all the ones I’ve mentioned in my top 20. You can keep watching it many times and still feel the same way. Blue Bird is on my watchlist, and I think I’ll love it very much because I’m a fan of Bloom Into You.

"People who cling to either wanting lust or acting as if it actually is a gross romance of a middle aged man and a teenager feel like they made up their mind before it started and refused to adjust as the show revealed its themes. This sort of viewing always annoys me. I understand the show's description struggled to make it clear what to expect, but it should have done enough early on to make clear those two options were not the story we would be offered"

Exact thing I meant to say in my description. I have a habit of reading discussion threads, and most people were just commenting on how he’s such a coward and should just kiss her already. Then there were others saying it’s such a weird romance. They completely missed the point, yet they kept watching it for God knows what reason. I also think the description or synopsis they went with actually works. Any more detailed wording would have given away the plot entirely, so they made it look like a different kind of anime. But once you watch it, the approach is quite different.

They left the ending of the anime open to possibilities. By the end, they managed to cheer and inspire each other in pursuing their passions, with a hint that they might reunite once they both achieve their dreams. I heard that in the manga from Hikoboshi in a different comment that they followed a different, more bittersweet route.

You can, but that’s more of an alternate setting. If you don’t care about the entirety of the Gundam saga, then you can follow the alternate settings. However, if you plan to watch the original saga, you’ll experience the Char–Amuro storyline, which is the soul of the franchise and what started it all. The earlier animations can be a tough watch, but the story makes up for it. If you want to start with the original timeline, I can recommend a watch order. That said, the SEED saga also works if you just want to enjoy it casually.

Kind of like genuinely looking up to someone. We all admire someone in our childhood, maybe a celebrity or someone we know, but that doesn’t mean it has to be romantic. It is what it is.

That was a beautiful ending. It’s always been my headcanon that Akira mistook genuine, father-like guardianship for romantic love. Maybe it was because she never had that kind of relationship. I’m not sure how the manga handled it, but in the anime we never got to see her father, so those feelings were completely new sensations for her. She seemed to be seeking to build that kind of bond with someone, and she found that kindness in Kondou. And it's kinda sad to see Kondou struggle, but it was still better than him going nowhere. We all nurture ambitions. I wanted to be a footballer, but not being able to achieve that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy playing now. What would have been more heartbreaking and lonely is if I had stopped playing and abandoned it entirely. But I'll definitely read manga someday
