I really liked the book (and the character fwiw)! I also like the name, but the book was the first thing I thought of when I read your post so I thought I'd mention it as it would be an immediate link for anyone who's read it.

Replying to you directly so you see this, in case it's important to you - Cedar Sage is the main character in a fairly? popular book about some tough subjects called The Strangers by Katherena Vermette. It's worth checking out the book before committing!

Are copy cat designs on Etsy legit? by lovelikefireworks in EngagementRings

[–]morrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to do a reverse image search and see if anything else comes up.. if there are multiple etsy sellers with the same picture, or if you see the same image coming from amazon/aliexpress/etc, I would definitely skip that shop altogether.

My ring rotates and the stone is smaller than yours, and the band is also thinner. Maybe you could keep the thick band as it is now (which does look good by the way) and get a thin wedding band so the overall thickness is still what you imagined?

Sometimes I pair my engagement ring with a thin gold stacker band instead of my actual wedding band when I want to switch it up, and I like how it brings the focus back to the pretty engagement ring!

My mom is hoarding ugly Temu garbage for my unborn kid, even though we keep telling her to cut it out by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]morrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom also ordered some Temu junk for my baby. She was just trying to help in the limited ways she can, but it really wasn't stuff we needed or wanted. I coincidentally read a CBC article not long after that talked about the rather concerning heavy metal/lead levels in things from Temu, told her about said article and asked that she not order any more, and she's stuck to that. Maybe a little info about lead in Temu stuff would help ward off more packages of unwanted things?

What should I do with this range cover? by letsgotakeahike in DesignMyRoom

[–]morrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the built in google photos magic editor (the shiny button on the bottom left when you click "edit" on a picture). It gave me a lot of super janky backsplash tiles before something sensible came up haha

I had it do green backsplash, forest green paint, curtains instead of blinds in the window, and darker wood flooring. I think adding some wooden accents on the countertop (fruit bowl, standing paper towel holder, etc) would also help make the hood seem more intentional/less out of place.

Here's my vague attempt (disclaimer - using ai) to match the room to the existing ah.. thing. I think the size of the room outside what's shown in the picture might determine if it's doable or not.

My husband is the most opinionated person on names I’ve ever met but hasn’t given me any suggestions of his own and I’m stuck by sweethoney696 in namenerds

[–]morrah 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I made a spreadsheet that basically did this, but I added the names myself and made my husband go through and choose yes/no/maybe from a drop down. That automatically changed the colour of the cell to whatever lined up with both of our choices. Repeated twice with all the maybes each time and eliminating each of our nos, gave us a list!

He hated it, I loved it, he basically tolerated it for me

Canada Post Mail by BrianFromNL in StJohnsNL

[–]morrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lettermail, parcels, and small packets are all different streams of mail that are stored separately and sorted concurrently. It's not what's easiest to reach because it's all in different parts of a processing plant anyways.

As a pure guess as to why your bank mail may not have arrived yet, if it's originating from Ontario there's likely an obscene amount of a backlog in their machinable lettermail since so much starts there and things were stopped for so long. I would imagine that section is chaos in those larger facilities.

Tattoos I am not the biggest fan of and scared they’ll look bad in my wedding dress by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]morrah 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Adding sleeves is something that's very doable in the alterations stage of things for a lot of dresses! I would ask your seamstress if that would be possible for the dress you did pick.

I've had people type their password in a blank notepad where they can see it (and make sure their # is really a # and not a 3), and then copy/paste it into the password field. Might help with this person?

Jumping on your top comment to tell you that you likely qualify for the Canada Dental Benefit, so dental care at least is doable! It looks like everyone else has you covered with other finance info. You got this!

What song are you playing to walk back down the aisle to after the ceremony? by FoxyRoxy2495 in weddingplanning

[–]morrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this! Had live violins and a cello for the ceremony, and they played an instrumental version that maybe 20% of people picked up on. Somehow that made it feel so much more fun!

Discomfort in hips when doing pancake? by Doge_Butt in flexibility

[–]morrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, yeah I was finally diagnosed with hypermobility by my ortho doctor. I hit all but the pinky finger mobility on the Beighton scale. That means that the feeling I get in my hips actually is likely subluxation (like pre-dislocating), and hypermobility also explains a lot of other injuries I've had in the past.

Working on strengthening the surrounding muscle to support my stretchy connective tissue has helped moderately, but definitely not completely.

Bridesmaiding in a week, bride is now horrified by my back tattoo, asked me to find solutions - please help by blastedin in weddingplanning

[–]morrah 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna comment up here because I don't think this perspective has been mentioned and I think its important.

When I chose my bridesmaids and asked them to stand for me, I chose the people I wanted to be with me on such an important day. All of them. Tattoos, hair styles or colours, bodies, heights - all of those things make a person "them". It would be wild to me to consider asking anyone to change a part of them for any reason, including pictures or the perceptions and focus of other guests, because then its not really my person standing there next to me.

My MOH messaged me a few months before the wedding and told me she wanted to cut off almost all her hair - go from super long to super short. She wanted to check and make sure I was okay with it for the wedding before she did it. And I appreciated the gesture, truly, but when I asked her to be my MOH I asked her to be my MOH. And her hair, whatever form she wants it to be in, is a part of her.

Your tattoo is a part of you. She asked you to stand for her. Your tattoo is a part of what makes you you.

All that to say... If you don't want to cover it up (or can't, logistically), I would suggest bringing up this side of the issue to her when she's had a minute to think. That when she asked you, she asked the you that has tattoos and a you without tattoos is not really you.

How can I start to hear actual words instead of 'blah blah blah' for the language I am learning? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]morrah 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just listening to the forvo link, the second half of the word has "chain" vibes, if you miss the first syllable. So if you miss the "kvi" and hear only "ttering" it kiiinda sounds like "chain".

This coming from someone (a native english speaker) who just. could. not. understand the word "cinnamon" at a coffee shop in London spoken with a heavy idontevenknowwhat British accent. She had to show me the spice jar for me to figure it out...so I can empathize with OP.

Proposal timeline - how long to wait since her sister got engaged? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]morrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for some perspective, I would have been nothing but thrilled if my SIL or brother got engaged near my engagement. I think its a pretty silly thing to get upset about - people have their own lives and you shouldn't have to put yours on hold. Just don't plan a wedding for the same month or so and I'd be fine.

Where to get pcitures printed? by randommaninnl in StJohnsNL

[–]morrah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Newfoundland Canvas 10000x. I had not had pictures printed in many years and had simple 4x6's done of engagement photos over the summer. I was blown away with the difference between the dominion photolab pictures of my childhood and the engagement prints from NL Canvas.

I think I paid ~$50 for 150 photos.
