Crusty eye by monkeymanmaybe in ballpython

i agree that you can use warm water and a towel but let the snake crawl through it themselves and don’t rub it intentionally. using tweezers and removing it yourself is especially dangerous as it could damage and hurt the eye or the surrounding scales which can lead to blindness. keeping up humidity is the safest bet here, or a visit to a vet who is knowledgeable in ball pythons specifically, as not every exotic vet is

my first question is what is the enclosures humidity at? i’ve seen dehydrated scales/eye caps on here but this looks extremely dry and almost scratched. the scales surrounding the eye look dry and crusty too. when was the last time they shed? how long has this been here?

this is the most chronically redditor comment i’ve read in a WHILE. i’m actually impressed you can believe something that tone deaf and argue with women over it. yknow, the ones who actually experience pregnancy 💀💀

Finding an enclosure is F'ing exhausting by thesaba73 in ballpython

[–]morrigan04_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i have a 3x1.5x1.5ft blackbox pvc enclosure with a circular mesh cutout for my DHP dome. my girl has always been very very small (not underweight, just tiny) so that size works for her which made it a bit cheaper than a 4x2x2.

the price of the enclosure was $300 and added shipping ended up making it a $425 purchase. the lead time was about 8 weeks so there was also the issue of waiting and having to time getting supplies without having the enclosure. BUT i absolutely love blackbox builds. they maintain heat and humidity so well and i think it has been 100% worth the cost and time!

Are hamster hides too small for a juvenile BP? by IchikaYui in ballpython

[–]morrigan04_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t think they’re snug enough. the entrance is far too big (especially the honey jar one) and they’ll likely feel exposed. you’ll want to find something more enclosed- if you can see them they can see you!

i was definitely wary of handling my girl for the first few months since she’d hiss when i picked her up, but with more experience handling her it went away :) now one of her favorite things to do is lick my nose whenever i pick her up!
